Xbox Special Editions? More Storage Possibilities?

Hey everyone!

Wanted to create this post to get everyone’s thoughts around this. I don’t know about you guys, but I am waiting to get the new Series X to see if there’s a special Halo Infinite edition. It would be really cool and I think a great idea, even from a business & customer standpoint, for 343 and Microsoft to do. Being that Halo is Microsoft’s biggest game, I think it’s a no brainer for them to kick off their first special edition next-gen console with Halo. I think they should make a special edition for the series X and S but I would 100% get the series X. When does everyone think we would find out if there is a special edition xbox? Maybe E3? When’s the absolute latest they would tell us? And when does everyone think pre-orders would go live? Gosh I hope if they release them there isn’t issues with getting hands on one/inventory!

Also something else I wanted to ask everyone, I know the Series X comes with 1TB of internal storage and currently the only expansion card available is the 1TB Seagate one, but for $219.99 retail price, thats crazy!! I hope if there is a special halo infinite series x, they bump up the internal storage to 2TB, even if its more money - I think its 100% worth it. 1TB nowadays, especially when these next-gen games really start rolling out, won’t be enough. If they stick to just 1TB of internal storage, then hopefully in time there’s more options of expansion cards with more storage or atleast a cheaper price.

These are my thoughts, but I would love to hear from everyone else!! Please Microsoft and 343 release a special edition Halo Infinite Series X!!!

I am also waiting on a halo edition. I would like a bigger hard drive, 1tb is just not enough anymore thanks to oversized games. Looking at you COD…

Planning on getting a Series S to replace my XBOSAD and would put down some extra cash for a special edition Series S. I’m not concerned about storage, but that’s because I’m a very casual gamer and don’t play tons of games.

I am pretty certain that Microsoft will try to make a Halo themed Series X, as they have made a special edition console for pretty much every Halo game ever. I do agree that the price of the expansion storage card is crazy high, but that price is about on par for an NVME ssd if you got one for PC. if they did make a model of the Series X with 2 TB of storage I can see it easily costing at least $100 more. A less expensive solution currently is to get a cheap USB hard drive for like $50 or so and then store games on that. When you want to play them you can then transfer games between that usb hard drive to the internal storage. Not ideal and definitely a hassle but still faster and less expensive than deleting and redownloading games.

Given the limited supply of standard consoles, I think its highly unlikely that MS will produce a second line of custom consoles for the general market.
I think it’s much more likely that a handful, like 10 to 100, of highly custom consoles will be produced for promotional purposes (charity giveaways and such).

But to play devil’s advocate, the main reason I haven’t upgraded yet is because I want to know with 100% certainty that they won’t make one, and that I could have waited a little longer.

If an LE console is of the cards, I hope they do a custom controller like ODST.
Maybe they could bundle it with a custom designed storage expansion? I’d quite happily get on board with that.

I fully expect they will produce a limited console, but I don’t think it will be out this year. If the game is really a long term thing, they can time it with a major DLC update or an external event like an anniversary. (like the original clear green console for CE was).

They are selling every last Series X they can produce right now, and doing an alternate run for a different edition in 2021 seems counter productive. They clearly didn’t plan on having a special edition console for last November’s original launch.

I do think they have the capacity to release a nice limited edition controller, and I would love to see that.

As far as storage is concerned, I would expect more expandable options before we see a 2TB console. Adding another module to the motherboard would be even more involved than changing the outer case of the console, and I think the expandable option is fine for now.

Same, I hope to buy a Halo Infinite-themed Xbox. I passed on the Halo 5 Xbox, sadly it just didn’t interest me at all to have a Locke-themed Xbox. The Master Chief Halo 5 controller was nice, though. I still have it, though it’s broken from playing too much.

I had thought that if they could release a console with one of the expansions in say 2022 or 23, once consoles area easier and cheaper to produce.
mine the one hand, I’d be annoyed that I didn’t get the Series X sooner, as I could have been enjoying it. On the other, a lot of retailers do decent ‘buy backs’ where you could exchange your old console for a new one with a hefty discount.

I remember trading in my 360S for the Halo 4 console for only £100. I sold the included game (was getting the LE game anyway), and one of the controllers and the headset, so in the end it only cost me £15, haha!
