Xbox Series X Shutting Down Whilst Playing Halo Infinite

That’s unfortunate. Well, if you get it at a brick and mortar I suggest you explore the extended warranty options. Some of the big box retailers in the US offer their own warranty and replacement program which only requires you take the device to the store for a replacement.

Same bug here ! Happened right after the last update ! It’s definitely on halos end

haven’t had this happen yet but i have had this game make my controller desync from my xbox mid match

That was my thinking too but they’d be a lot more complaints about it especially on here if it was a common or known issue with Halo Infinite or the update. Just as a FYI, I’ve sent my XSX back for full refund now and have been playing on old Xbox One X and it’s solid as a rock with no issues…I also seem to be getting 120fps (according to my monitor) playing at 1440p which is odd as I didn’t think the Xbox One X could do that.

Some of the first wave series X, like the one I own. Came with a mis aligned GPU cooler. The GPU has a central chip like normal PC GPU’s but the cooling core for it is a block of copper on aluminum cooling cores. These are slightly mis-alligned and sit sort of with a gap and the case needs to come apart to inspect- literally one or two twists of a hex key head on both sides of the core fixed this issue for me. Tightened the contact. closed the gap.

Is there any way of telling if you have a first wave XSX? I only bought mine at Xmas via Amazon…and I wouldn’t have known to what to look for. Is this a well known reported issue?

My XSX is a day one unit. Mine started doing this with Wolfenstein after the January console update. Many players are having this issue with multiple titles. I played Borderlands 3 yesterday for about 5 hours, I put Wolfenstein in and I’m lucky if it lasts 20 minutes. I do not think this is a Halo issue.

I agree. I believe it is a hardware issue which is why I sent my XSX back for a refund. If it was Halo related then there would be literally thousands of complaints from XSX players…but there isn’t.

I think it was the January update not hardware. My belief is, if it was hardware it would be all games and not “some” titles. I got a console update this morning. Will post back later after testing Wolfenstein.

Edit. Still no change, all games work perfectly except Wolfenstein Youngblood. It still shuts down my console, fortunately I managed to complete it this time and get all cheevos.

I have raised this with Xbox support. Will update if I hear anything.

It honestly sounds like a overheating issue. Infinite is very GPU intensive and causes a lot of heat. Could be bad thermal paste to the heatsink on the GPU in the console or it could be as simple as it not being ventilated well enough. Do you audibly notice the fan spin up before it shuts off? They’re known to run pretty damn quiet most of the time, so maybe try playing with your headphones/TV on mute and listening specifically to the sound of the Xbox and see if you can hear the fan spinning up faster and faster until the point of shutdown.

yes! i have encountered this during multiplayer once. Freaked me out tbh.

Hello, my husband has been experiencing the same issue too. Its been getting worse and worse everytime he gets on forge mode. Today has been the worst of them all within the past hour, his console will automatically shut down every 5 minutes. Hes tried unplugging it and did a hard reset, and had also made sure to keep the xbox cool too, and yet it still keeps turning off. And its just only for that specific game, if anybody knows anymore solutions on how to resolve this problem we would gratefully appreciate it!

Hello, I have the same problem too, since November, I had crashes on Ac Valhalla (but according to the Ubisoft forums it would be related to the game), I also crash on Monster Hunter Rise but only when I play online.

It’s very strange because I can play Age of Empire all day, even in multiplayer, or Plague Tale without any problem. I specify that I have the Xbox SX collector Halo, so a little afraid to send it and retrieve a normal Xbox SX.

It sounds a lot like an overheating problem, but what makes me doubt is that I can play Monster Hunter Rise solo, without any problem
