Xbox Series X Shutting Down Whilst Playing Halo Infinite

Has anyone else had issues with their Xbox Series X shutting down completely whilst playing?

It’s happened sporadically (may be once per week) since I bought it at Christmas, but since todays update it has shutdown by itself 5 times whilst playing both MP and campaign.

Its kept on a desk (not in a cupboard) so it’s well ventilated, stood vertically and I’ve tried the power supply switch but the problem persists.

I only bought it less than 2 months ago so should I raise a warranty replacement request with Microsoft?

First I’ve heard of this issue. I also have a series x, but I haven’t experienced any issues. Try doing a reset, try soft first and see if it helps. If not then try a hard reset.

This happens to my friends series X about once a week as well. Only on Halo Infinite.

Thanks. I’ve done both and cleared cache numerous times over the last few weeks but the problem has only got worse…5 times in less than 3 hours is ridiculous tbf.

Fortunately I still have my old Xbox One X so I’ve just rang Amazon and they have offered a full refund on return of the XSX as they don’t have any stock. I’ll just have to be patient and hunt down another XSX…might get the Halo version this time if I can get my hands on one.

Never happened to me, but I don’t play the campaign. Is it more frequent in single player or multiplayer?

Maybe your Xbox has issues?

Edit: I should have read the entire thread before replying. It’s good to get it replaced.

I have the Halo Edition of the XBSX. It has had quite a lot of usage over the past couple months with 1,900+ matches completed, and no power issues so far.

Another thing you should check is the power source. Is the console connected directly to an AC outlet, surge protector, or UPS? Try a different wall outlet, remove the surge protector, remove the UPS. When using a UPS a failing battery can cause power loss – enough to shut down a console. Not all failing batteries will generate a UPS alarm

Never had an issue with the hardware, only ever the software crashing and closing with Infinite. If you haven’t already I’d reach out directly to MS.

You could try playing it from a hdd plugged in, rather than the internal ssd, to see if there is any difference.

Same thing is happening to me! I don’t know what to do.

that happen to me once with halo infinite and once with JWE, its was due to the airflow and the position of my xbox

most likely a hardware issue, unfortunately. game bugs definitely don’t cause the operating system to shut down. Maybe it’s getting too hot. Check if the fan is working. I’d definitely get a replacement. This prob only happened in Halo because it’s the game you’ve been playing more consistently and it’s a high demanding game on CPU/GPU as well.

Ok thanks…will do. I’ve started the returns process for a full refund so will have to use my old One X until I can find another XSX.

Thanks also to everyone else who has also replied.

GameStop has been getting restocks often, they only offer bundles but if you really want a series x they are a reliable option.

Shouldn’t you have a warranty with Xbox. Maybe see if you can send it over to them for refurbishing. If you want.

I’m based in the UK so unfortunately we don’t have GameStop! I’d happily move to America though given half a chance! :joy:

Yeah I almost submitted the Microsoft repair but they only offer refurbished (presumably because they have stock issues too) but I don’t consider a refurb unit a fair deal considering I just bought it less than 2 months ago, so I’ve opted for a full refund via Amazon.

@K0NSPIRACY I’m just curious, have you tried any of the above that Wintermute has posted?

Yeah I’ve done all that in testing. It was connected via an extension lead so I plugged it directly in to the a double wall plug then switched sockets…but the issue happened in all power supply configurations. I don’t have any UPS in my house.

It’s possible he might have accidentally downloaded the Xbox One version. Make sure he download the X|S version.

I have not played Halo Infinite but I get this with Wolfenstein and DOOM at the moment. Check this out and get complaints in with Microsoft support 343i etc.

I thought Wolfenstein was the issue so raised a ticket with Bethesda. We went through all trouble shoots. Reset Series X, re-install etc etc, issue persists.

I’ve researched a wee bit and others are having this issue with various titles from Assassin’s Creed to “insert title here” It’s seems mostly to come since January.

I know that’s when it started for me, and there was an update early January, possibly just a coincidence but annoying either way. This won’t solve your issue.

But it seems this is not only Halo related.
