So far that we know of the PS4 is using 8 BG of GDDR whilst the Xbox One is using 8GB of DDR3 for GPU. From what I can gather, the PS4 is clearly superior in the graphics department as its using the latest and powerful type of RAM there is whilst the Xbox One is clearly not.
My question is why MS considered using DDR3 over GDDR5 when they know it’s less powerful? They also have eSRAM however I don’t think it will be able to bridge the enormous gap between the types of RAM. In fact some websites claim that the PS4 is 50 percent more powerful than the Xbox ONE!!!
TO worsen the situation, they have only allocated 5GB to games and 3 GB to the operating system, while Sony has dedicated 7BG to games. I am not trying to start a flame war here but I was curious about why MS choose inferior type of RAM against Sony?
RAM? Don’t know, don’t post.
I’m not going to bother to tell you why RAM =/= graphics power. All DDR5 refers to is the frequency. QUALITY DDR3 RAM can be done cheaply, so vastly lower latencies will make some of the difference up.
Also, graphics means literally NOTHING as far as fun games are concerned. An 8 bit teaspoon is about 50 billion times as entertaining as, say, Crysis 3. Halo CE is better than the generic rubbish most FPS’s are now.
Once again, don’t know, don’t post.
This has nothing to do with this Halo lol just some random versus thread.
I am not really an expert, but isn’t RAM just how much can be loaded at any given moment (as in maps and AI)? In terms of graphics, we’re at a point where it doesn’t matter much anymore (look at how good graphics are today, on current gen consoles), especially considering its, what, 10 times stronger? Also, Microsoft has stated that they intend to use the power of the Cloud to produce more computational power, which I didn’t hear Sony are doing.
I’m pretty sure this thread is in the wrong section.
I don’t mind which has the best graphic’s because it’s about the game’s I enjoy, not which console has the most gimick feature’s. If I was that desperate for graphic’s, performance then I’d go buy a better pc but I don’t.
We’ll let this thread stand for now as long as everyone plays nice

Exactly, graphics dont matter much. Just look at Halo. H4 is the best looking halo to date (though i dont like the ttron art style) but compared to CE or H2, its just an endless mess of camo camping and people winning fights off spawn just cuz their start weapons are different than anothers.
Gameplay over grpahics all day everyday. That being said I have seen nothing on Xbone that seems exciting. I refuse to get excited about the next halo when we will likely just get Reach 3: armor abilities and generic FPS mechanics evolved LOL
Wait. Play nice? ON THE INTERNET?
This.
It’ll probably be a lot like last gen. Although the ps3 is the more powerful machine, the graphical difference between the 360 and ps3 was literally moot. Most developers make multiplatform games very similar for both consoles anyways.
There will be no difference between the PS4 and Xbox one as far as graphics are concerned. In fact, both systems are nearly identical. The only real difference between the two is if you prefer exclusives on one or the other…or xbox live vs psn, or whatever. the consoles will run the same though.
It’s not moot this time around. Last gen ps3 had the graphical edge, but it was hard to take full advantage of it. It’s architecture was incredibly hard to code for, whilst the 360 had simple architecture. 3rd party developers would make game for the 360 and port them to the ps3 later which is why the 360 and the ps3 looked almost the same graphically except on the exclusives in which the ps3 won out every time in the graphics department.
What’s interesting this time around is that the ps4 has a faster, simpler, and more powerful processor, better quality ram(of which more of it is allocated to the processor)and a more advanced GPU. It’s also important to note that the ps4’s architecture is the simplest this time around meaning companies will most likely create on the ps4 and then port over to the 360 meaning there will be a very noticeable difference in graphical capability.
The “cloud” point is moot as well as sony is rolling out their cloud support at a later date, but that being said the cloud isn’t going to make your graphics any better. It’s not going to be like “having the power of 10 xbox’s”. The only thing that it will really allow you to do is “simulate” your games while you are away. The logistics involved with sending a large amount of data to and from a console over the internet inherently involves lots of latancy. This prevents things like physics, graphical calculations, processing and other things from taking place without completely blaming up. (I dare someone to tell me that I’m wrong)
I understand that games aren’t all about graphics, but I do expect some graphical improvement from console to console. The improvement between wii and wii u was enough to warrant me purchasing the console. The improvement between ps3 and ps4 was enough for me to purchase the console. I don’t expect to see that improvement on xbone. Especially now that we know the games they showed at e3 were being run off of pc’s rather than the console itself.
Why is this in a Halo thread?!
As far as I know, the latest and best-looking games (such as Crysis 3) only use about 3GB of RAM. If that’s true, then it will be quite a bit until we hit the 5GB limit (probably near the end of the console generation).
The benefit is that multi-tasking (that includes the Xbox Guide) will be much better and faster on the Xbox One (even when compared to the PS4).
If I wanted to multitask I would go on my pc
> If I wanted to multitask I would go on my pc
May as well play games there too; they look significantly better. In the end, it really does come down to exclusives and who provides the superior online service. The common masses don’t care for graphical power. They will buy an Xbox One if they look at Halo 5 (or Ryse, Dead Rising, etc.) and find it more interesting than the PS4 exclusives.

I am going to predict the future here.
Ryse is going to be awful.
Why? Because it’s made by Crytek. This is the company that refuses to make their game balanced or fun, just so they can squeeze in volumetric lighting in order to warrant £50.
I doubt that some of EA’s “exclusives” will be exclusives for long. I’m hearing reports that these were timed things. If -Yoink!- doesn’t get enough sale publishers will start jumping ship. I guarantee it.

I’m almost positive those are rumors. If publishers “jump ship”, we still have Microsoft’s first party developers.
Besides, that will never happen in the first place. PS3 still had quality exclusives when it was failing market-wise. PS4 will win the launch year, but there’s still a chance the Xbox One is able to win this generation.

The Xbox 360 did win launch last generation due to its lower cost but as of the most recent poll on sales, the Ps3 currently has sold 1 million more consoles. Anything can change these next 8-10 years…

To anyone who is saying “graphics don’t make a game”, please shut the -Yoink- up.
No one asked you for your opinion on how important graphics are. It is 100% irrelevant to what the OP is talking about.
If you personally don’t care about graphics in any way, great, but lots of people do.
If you would be fine with Halo 5 having Mario graphics, good for you. But the OP obviously wants their Halo games to look good and there is nothing wrong with that.
