Xbox One and Xbox 360 friend play

My friend has Halo 4 on his Xbox 360. I want to know if I got it on my Xbox One S, would I be able to play together online with him?

Yes, you’re able to cross-play between consoles.
Joining each other’s fireteam should work the same as if you both had 360s.
To make or join a party, you’ll need to access the Xbox 360 guide after you’ve started Halo 4, by pressing the start and back button on the Xbox One controller. I’ve had trouble a handful of times with the party chat not working properly, but it has also worked right multiple times. So… shrugs
Hope this helps!

It definitely helps. Thanks a lot, appreciate it!

No, I asked my friend before and he said “No you can’t play Halo 4 with Xbox 360 people whilst playing the MCC version.” Or something like that.
I was saddened, my friend usually doesn’t play with me.
(I own a Xbox 360, and none of the Xbox One versions, but currently my Xbox 360 isn’t plugged in so I like to play Halo 5 Forge on the PC.)

That is correct - you can’t cross play between the 360 version and the MCC version as they are different games

You can cross-play with the 360 version and the backwards compatible version though
