I am wondering if anyone has done this? i plan on playing alot of halo 4 once it launches but i don’t wanna bug my wife and tie up our front room tv.
my monitor is a Dell S2209W (1920x1080) has a DVI-D port and VGA, im not worried about loss of sound because my headset runs though optical and i cant seem to find a HDMI to DVI/VGA
Well, you can use your Xbox with the monitor, you just need to get an AV to VGA cable for the Xbox. A quick Google search on them brings you a lot of results. You would have been in better luck did your monitor have an HDMI input, but VGA will be good enough. I am personally using my Xbox with my monitor. Not trough VGA, but HDMI.

Yea that works but there is screen distortion when i try to go from AV to VGA, but i think i found a HDMI to DVI cable for far cheaper that the av-vga was.

I didn’t even think about the possibility of HDMI to DVI, should have been obvious. Well, I believe it should work with your monitor.
Yes people give you the answer but whats most important is how hard it is to get ahold of the cable. This cable is no longer made; Your best bet is to call game stop. Every around in till you find it or get a used one from websites or third party brands. Regardless you can most likely get a used cable but finding a brand new one can be more expensive and a little trickier. As for the Microsoft VGA cable if memory serves right is no longer sold on their website anymore just third party brands. So prepare to hunt it down.
As for the cable function yes it does plug into computer monitors and even has a attachment to plug into speaker systems. Computer or non computer speakers. Your choice just like monitor.
Also when you get the cable. In your Xbox options without starting the game. There is a feature to change resolution which you will need to do. Its in settings somewhere if memory servers me right but you will need the monitor plugged in first before doing so.
My portable setup consists of a 25" 1920x1080 PC-Monitor and a 100W (due to sub) DB5.1 PC-Speaker combo. The speakers were $30 Cdn at a liquidation store but the other was full price. I’ve had this combo for 5 years now and my only problem is that the monitor is an LCD and not like my brand new 24" 1920x1080 LCD… The blacks… WOW LCD rocks nearly as much as a plasma. It’s for my PC. My PC can utilize it more than the Xbox for the size and the blacks are for watching movies more so than gaming. But I am really anxious to upgrade to a 25-27" LCD for the Box in the near future.
Before that was a 21.5" LED monitor through VGA at 1080p and DB2.1 speakers with sub at 60W.
PS: The size of the monitor should be relative to viewing distance. Finding the distance where your aperture (pupil if you like) can focus on multiple angles (not at the same time) without needing to move the eyes much, if at all, is where you’ll tend to do the best.
