Does anyone think it would be cool if 343 included some kind of tournament mode where you could face off against other halo competitors in 4 v 4 or even 1 v 1 tournament brackets. You obviously wouldnt need to win money but it would be a competitive thrill and xp or digital trophies could be offered. I just think it would spice up the competitive element and it would be fun to take a more serious interest in forming teams and working on your strategies. Not sure if tournies would be open to players of all skill or if players would be grouped according to ability. Thoughts?
Just to clarify this would be an in-game playlist option and there could be one game single elimination formats or best of 3 or what have you modes and it could have slayer or objective options.
It would be nice, but people would just find a way to cheat.

It’s a nice idea. A really nice idea. However, online tournamanent generally bring cheaters out of the woodwork, even more so when there is money or prizes at stake. As an e.g. I used to work for an online chess site that ran tournaments. One would think that there wasn’t all that much cheating, right? Wrong. We had Titled players get caught cheating as well as the average joe.

Would also have to balance the game, matches are too unbalanced in terms of weapon drops, so you’d have to either turn them off completely or design another system that is more predictable.
Otherwise you’d have a lot of competitive players wanting rematches because they weren’t lucky enough to win.
yeah i’m not saying issues wouldn’t arise, but i would still take a tournament mode with some small flaws because it would be really exciting and there would be some purpose as opposed to the current infinity slayer.

Nothing wrong with that at all. I’ve wanted a bit more competition/competitive play in H4 since launch. Tbh, I think with the current game settings it would be very hard to have a balanced competitive playlist or tournament.
Balancing that Infinity Slayer out.
I suppose I’d play a tournament.
Although I’d probably be beaten the first game, or the first two if it’s best of three. I’m not good.
Would it reset every week? Would beaten players not be able to play again?
I was thinking there would be several tournaments a week, or a whole playlist even dedicated to tournaments. Like if you lose one tournament you enter into another one if you want. And there could be tournaments for doubles, and 1 v 1, and 4 slayer or MLG settings. So it’s like a whole mode. Perhaps you could limit the number of tournies a player can enter or the days a week they are available to make them more “special” or intense or perhaps you can play in them all day long. I also think you could make them skill based. Have certain open to players of any skill level, and certain (basing this on a 1-50 ranking system) only available to players who are a 45 and above or below level 20, etc. There are a lot of ways this could play out.

You should take a look at the MLG or AGL settings. They got the ordnance stuff fixed for the most part.
Your idea reminds me of Reach’s Arena, which was pretty cool for a while; basic slayer gametype, mostly arena specific forge maps, division ranking etc.
I htink if nothing else, they should bring an arena back.
how is it at all like arena? arena had no tournament brackets or elimination games of any kind. it just grouped players based on skill level in divisions. I’m talking NCAA tournament style action here.

Suppose I could take a look at some point.
I however, in my thread I posted, suggested another idea to balance it out, how I thought, and someone else, it would work and keep it balanced.
Would require that i343 does some programming and stuff though as I’ve gone through the options and haven’t found what I wanted to do with global drops.
