So, in the bulletin, it said that we need Gold membership to download spartan ops content? Is that correct? If that’s true, that’s disappointing to hear… 
Why do we have to purchase another service for a feature that is supposed to come with the game for free (at least season 1)??

That is correct.
Though it would seem that downloading new episodes wouldn’t be a problem for you if you keep subscription gold and an internet connection (which you clearly have the latter).
I was reading somewhere ( i think the update?) that you should go into Halo 4 knowing this. That there will be a ton of content that requires Gold and internet.
The first season of Spartan OPs will be free and it comes with the game. It will unfold over months, not just mere weeks. If successful, paid seasons might become a reality.

Go buy a 12 month membership for 60 bucks <mark>(when you are able to)</mark> and then you will have an entire 12 months of xbox live.

How does that suck? It’s completely logical.
It’s not so much that you’re not allowed to download it. It’s more or less that you can’t download it, and to be honest I expected that from the beginning…

I just renewed my gold membership, but this news really blows for those who don’t have one or are more the off-line type. At least they had firefight to play with without gold membership in Reach. Spartan Ops is a pretty large part of the game, so I can imagine some people will be disappointed by this news.

Agreed, it’s not like Halo 4 comes out tomorrow.
The game is a good few months away so he has plenty of time to save.

I agree, they should explain more clearly as to why we need Gold to download these spartan ops missions. This is supposed to come with the game! It’s such a huge turn off, knowing that we’ll be needing gold membership to download it.

Well, it’s quite obvious you have internet… why not just drop the whopping $5 a month to get gold?
Also: every new account gets gold for free for 30 days. If you’re seriously that cheap, just make a new account to download the missions.

It is still playable solo, which isn’t an excuse, people should have to buy Gold for the co-op experience and matchmaking experience, not solo play.

Yes, you do need Gold to play online with others, but the question is that is Gold really necessary to download the missions? I mean, you can play these Spartan Ops missions offline or solo. Gold should only be needed to play participate in online matchmaking or play co-op online.
I’m ok with it, because I have gold already and am good through early 2014. This is a matter for the many who play Halo games solely for their missions or play offline.
It’s meant to be played in co-op. Co-op, like any game that requires you to connect to friends game requires Gold membership. So co-op = Gold membership.
If you can’t afford gold membership, try calling XBox support and see if they have any special promos for silver members. More than likely they’ll give you something to help you out.
