Xbox 720?

Are they gonna show it at CES???

There’s been no confirmation of it, although it has been rumored that many game companies were delivered early preview versions of the systems to get the acquainted with the hardware and software, and at one point there was an accidental footage leak recently of a black box in one of the studios that had something to do with the system.

I don’t think it’s far enough into development to reveal it yet, we still have some time before anything will be revealed.

Isn’t the CES already over?

I’m thinking we might get a glimpse of it at E3 this year.

> I’m thinking we might get a glimpse of it at E3 this year.

agreed, I’ve heard rumors here and there from some gaming news sites and magazines saying that Microsoft will be showing their next Xbox console at E3. That would be a good time to reveal the new Xbox.

Most likely during E3.

this brings up a question, how many of the new halos in the reclaimer trilogy will be available for 360?

halo 4 will be the only one.

well then if Halo 4 is good I better save up…

Hope not. My 360 still has plenty of life in it. If it is announced and Microsoft puts future Halo games on it then that’s a bit of a -Yoink- move.

it’s a yoink move from your stand point, but as a business stand point, it’s a very smart move. Halo 4 will be on the 360, but the other games will most likely be on the new Xbox, because if they keep with the “Xbox” only plan with Halo, then they will move the Halo title to the newest and better Xbox, which the current Xbox is out of date by 7 years. So far out of all of the consoles the Xbox 360 is the oldest console, the Wii and the PS3 are newer, but all three consoles are out of date when they’re lined up with high end gaming PCs.

Consoles will always be “outdated” compared to high end gaming PCs, hence “high end”. But I do agree that releasing a new console would be a good idea, at least from my point of view. I’m kind of sick of the inability of the 360 to have games with stunning graphics. As I’d finally want to have a game with good graphics, full HD resolution, and high framerate. Although I’d rather wait for two or three years in hopes of possible QHD or QFHD resolution.

Which is why I will enjoy PC games over Xbox games when it comes to graphics, my Xbox games have all ways been for good honest game play with my friends, but PC will always be my platform for awesome graphics.

that or Microsoft make it so you can play Xbox games on your PC.

So everyone still thinking the new Xbox is going to be solely based off of PC tech? I just cant see it. surely it will have to use some form of low power mobile tech or it will have to be the size of a PC. Have you seen how many cores and fans a high end rig has now days? scalability looks like a real problem.

I have a bet the next box will be announced at E3 if it is not I will be 500 MSP down I made the bet after seeing the artwork for halo 4 over at IGN. Even if it is not next gen halo 4 will help shift next gen units, halo 4, nextbox bundle pack anyone?

At E3 it will probably just show like “The next generation of xbox is finally here” and will just show a glimpse of it…

They will then go on to say that the 360 will be supported for another ‘x’ years and you will still be able to play you’re 360 games and all this to try and get people to buy 360’s still while the wait until the next xbox.7

I hope it’s called ‘Xbox Next’ or something clean like that. Not Xbox 720, that sounds silly.

There are rumors going around that it’ll be called the Xbox Infinity. 720 implies going around twice. The other code name was also going to be the xbox loop which could imply a symbol that may look like the infinite symbol. Hence Xbox Infinity. But as I said in another thread, this isnt concrete proof.

> Hope not. My 360 still has plenty of life in it. If it is announced and Microsoft puts future Halo games on it then that’s a bit of a -Yoink!- move.

A -Yoink- move would imply that they decided to frustrate the customers intentionally or are being -Yoinks!- in general. I agree with the others, the xbox 360 has been out for over 6 years. It’s old. When I was a kid, I would get the next generation of game boy every 3 years so getting a new console every 6 is still not as hectic. And actually, out of the last 10 years of xbox, the 360 ran 6 of it while the original ran 4. So we’ve had more time with the 360 than the original.

I’d never gotten to PC gaming myself as in my case, I’d waste way more money than I should if I built a high end PC. Mostly because when I start doing something that requires me to buy something, I usually get the best stuff available. That’s the only reason I’ve been happy with the consoles. Besides the reason that I enjoy playing with friends.

But I really doubt Microsoft would make all their Xbox titles available for PC, they’d most likely lose a huge amount of money. But I hope console companies find a way to bridge the gap between high end PCs, although that’s most likely practically impossible.

Not entirely. The thing is that PC’s seem to upgrade on a yearly basis, practically. Consoles make these longer jumps between 3 to 10 years to close the gap. If a xbox 720/loop/infinity or w/e becomes a reality, it will likely be close to the quality of current high ends. Only to lose it’s place after a year or so when the next upgrade happens.

That’s exactly the thing, console can only be on the top for so long, after a year it will be outdated compared to high end PCs. And I doubt Microsoft would put the best tech into their next console, the price would be enormous and no one except hardcore console gamers would buy it. Consoles are meant to be cheap and easy ways for gaming, alone or with friends. And personally, I’m quite happy with how it is, otherwise I’d be a PC gamer. That said, I still can appreciate good graphics.
