The Halo 3, Halo Reach, and Halo 4 servers for the Xbox 360 are currently down. I have tried both using backwards compatibility on the Xbox One and on an Xbox 360 without success, with two different accounts.
I have spoken to a number of others who report having the same issue as well.
I was going to report this same issue too. I’ve been trying to get on the 360 Backwards compatible version of Halo 4 on my XOX, but I keep getting “Information could not be retrieved from Xbox LIVE.”
This has been occurring for over 36 hours now. I haven’t been able to get on since late at night December 5th. It’s been down since at least 8am EST December 6th that I know of and is still currently down now at 3:30pm EST December 7th.
I was initially hoping to have been able to finish up what I was doing on Halo 4 before Infinite dropped on the 8th, but that doesn’t seem possible now. I really hope 343i isn’t intentionally temporarily shutting 360 services down in order to boost Infinite’s population numbers.
Thanks for confirming that you’ve run into the same issue. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.
Have you tried today? As of last night they were still not working however I also heard on the news about AWS servers. This apparently was an issue for the whole day and affected many services (including large companies). Could this be root cause?
There was an announcement by 343 Industries that they’d be shutting down the old Halo titles that had Xbox Live capabilities, like Halo 3.
Odd that Halo 4 is down, though.
There was an update about a month ago on that, where a statement was released and the final date for that process was January 13, 2022. All legacy Halo games on the 360 will be affected; I am wondering why this is happening now though instead of then.
I’m not sure, it could be. However, as of now (~12:40 Eastern) Halo 3, Halo 4, and Reach matchmaking remain down.

For me it’s a Shame that the Servers goinh Down for this Games
I submitted a ticket to the support team and they responded. Go ahead and submit support tickets in hopes that with enough people they will look further into the issue. They have no workaround at this time which is bad news bears.

Every time I submit a ticket to Halo Support I’m met with some variant of “we can’t do anything, I’m gonna close the ticket now”, so I’m just going to post here and say “Hey, your servers for 360 Halo games are still down. Fix them.” Can’t even complete CAMPAIGN challenges in Halo 4 right now.
What did they respond with?
Adding another name to the list.
It’s unreasonable that both Xbox Support and Halo Support think that they can’t do anything about this.
The game is advising it can’t reach Xbox Live, but Xbox Live is clearly working overall - so both need to come together to fix ASAP s we can have our promised goodbyes with these Legacy games.
Specifically, they said there is no workaround. After working on server applications myself, I think something died and they don’t have the resources to fix it.
I need one more halo wars achievement, it’s not January in yet.
