X Marker comparison video Like the changes?

I didn’t really think not having the x truly affected my play much but considering they took the time to implement it back into the game they could have at least made the time spent implementing it worth while. I don’t like to complain but the x as it stand now isn’t much different from not having it at all. When I played my first game post-TU I honestly had to search for a teammate and watch him die to notice it. I actually thought they completely forgot to add it for a little bit. I don’t mind the colors or anything but it needs to stay on the screen for a tad bit longer. Something tells me that it’s impossible for them to not have the x follow the corpses. I knows it’s been done in other games but I’m sure they at least tried and just couldn’t get it to work.

Halo 2 and 3 were the best for that X on death. Halo Reach changing the X to white was a why? and Halo 4 plain sucks as per usual.

I can’t believe I was excited for this >_<

I never expected this TU to fail so hard, why…just…why???

> Both canonically and gameplay-wise it makes sense. After all, software can only track its broadcast, and the X moving means your opponent has an explosive weapon.

To be honest, I don’t really mind the whole following the body thing.

I’m more dissapointed in the fact that it is hard to see and doesn’t stick around long. Make it red and make it last like 3 seconds and it’d be fine. If they could increase the size, that would be cool too.

As it is now, all I can say is that it’s better than nothing. The problem is it’s only just over the ‘nothing’ line.

As it is, it makes pretty much no difference from not having it period. By the time latency allows someone to hear you say “One shot on/near my X”, the x will have disappeared, and by the sheer amount of explosions in this game your body probably went flying anyway. You might as well tell them to look in a random direction and hope that’s where the enemy is.

> We can’t see the code. We don’t know how the game fundamentally works. The old system may simply be incompatible with Halo 4. A lot was changed for this title and I suspect that the instant respawn system may clash with the old red X markers.

Actually, we can. It’s an almost exact copy-paste of the Reach engine.

> Why? It took them nearly six months to implement a feature that has been around since CE, and even then they can’t do it right.

Actually, it’s only been around since Halo 2.

Guess your memory is just bad. Maybe you should watch that video that was posted…

Well I do have an issue with how fast it disappears mainly. Players aren’t going to be flying anywhere far for the moving x to even matter negatively. Even if it does it shows that your enemy killed them with an explosive weapon. Win in my book. I’m not sure why the x dissapears faster or why exactly it’s white and it moves with the body but I’m sure they had they’re reasons. Try to be understanding.

Although I am glad the X is back and 343 listened to the community, I can´t help feeling that what they deliver just isn´t good enough. I mean they try SO HARD to make ¨their¨ Halo SO different from Bungie´s Halo that they´re changing fundamental things to the franchise.

The new ¨X¨, the ranking system, JIP, Ordenance, Instant Respawn, Grenade Indicator, etc… all these things just don´t add up to be an amazing experience for me as other Halos used to be.

But you know what really bothers me? That I can´t seem to stop complaining about Halo 4. I would love to enjoy and keep playing this game, but I feel it´s not as fun anymore. I like coming to the forums and seeing what´s up in the Halo Universe, I just don´t feel the need to play…

Heck maybe I´m just older and this game doesn´t appeal to me as much anymore. I guess I´ll know when I give Destiny a shot… cheers.

Very dissapointed with the new marker. My friends and I play Reach because of this feature and we were excited to hear it was coming to H4. Duration is too short and it’s too difficult to spot (imagine on a SD TV). Basically useless. Oh well, back to Reach.

sigh -_-

We need the old marker back, the exact marker that we had in the past.

Fortunately, we know that 343 looks at the forums and receive feedback, so I’m hoping that they’ll fix it soon.

Yes it needs to be exactly like the old one.
That’s what we expected, and that’s what they led us to believe, and should be corrected to look like the old one.

This isn’t nostalgia 343, it’s about functionality. The marker doesn’t work anymore because of how you changed it.

I see exactly what you did there.

Just make it RED and stay for 3 seconds.
Problem fixed.

3 seconds is not enough. It has to stay as long as the previous halos.

That sucks. It makes me wonder if anyone at 343 has actually ever played Halo before. At least competitively.

Thanks for taking the time to make a comparison vid!

I still can’t wrap my head around why the X had to be done like this. It just doesn’t make any logical sense.

Has anyone from 343 acknowledged this at all? Maybe explain why it was changed? Or if they have future plans for it?

This is 343i’s logic. Whatever Bungie makes they have to screw it up. The gigantic ego is getting in their way from making this game what it needs to be.

  1. secretly replace halo 4 with halo 3
  2. don’t tell the 24/7 crybabies on forum
  3. ???
  4. Profit
