WTF IS WRONG WITH THIS RANKING SYSTEM!!

Hey Waypoint, I’m trying to stay super cool right now but it’s getting really hard. As much as I love Halo 5: Guardians, I cannot for the life of me understand this ranking system.

I just finished my placement games in Team Doubles, and me and my teammate performed amazingly. We went 9 - 1 wins, he finished with a 3.7 K/D and I finished with a 7.3 K/D.

Overall I performed a lot better than him, but when we got placed into a division, he rightfully got put in Champion Tier. But for reasons I cannot fathom I was put in 2 tiers below him… 2!!!

I am livid right now. I know it’s just a game, and I know I should just be having fun, but I am just super peeved at the moment. I just feel like I’ve spent the past 1hr tryharding in vain.

I just don’t get how I can perform 2x better than my teammate and we win the same amount of games, yet he is placed I’m champion and I am placed in DIAMOND… DIAMOND 1!!!

(Sorry for my rage guys, my salt levels are just -Yoinking!- high at the moment. Anyone else having this problem?)

This rank is completely random. I made terrible matches in SWAT and I was ranked Onyx. Dont know why.

I made Onyx for Swat and Rumble Pit. I am not good. Ranks are meaningless.

Same here. I played a bunch of bad games FFA qualifiying matches, and I got Onyx. I never thought I would get Onyx at all in all of H5’s lifespan! The game seems to be very generous with some players and not so generous to others. Getting Onyx should have made me happy, but all it did was makes me question the integrity of the ranking system.

Obviously because he carried you /s

I’m pretty sure this ranking system just chooses a random tier to place you in. I got 9/10 wins in my swat placement matches and got platinum, but almost everyone I know is Onyx in swat. I also run into players all the time in platinum and diamond who are absolutely terrible and hurt our team more than help

Yeah I was just so pissed off I had to say something. I’m just not going to play doubles again, I don’t have the will to grind from Diamond -Yoinking!- 1 to Champion.

I wouldn’t even be upset if I played badly, but I did so bloody well. Didn’t go negative once and carried him most games, yet it drops me in freaking Diamond.

I wouldn’t even be pissed if I got placed in Onyx because that would be super reasonable, but Diamond 1… I’m just so done. Hopefully this issue is addressed and fixed soon. Maybe then there will be a point in play in that -Yoinking!- arena playlist.

I’m so mad lol… T_T (I cri veri thiym)

Well the game you lost in you placed fourth, so maybe that’s how the algorithm works. I agree with you that its super lame though. If yall were in the same games you should at least be in the same tier.

I also went through some of the game histories of the people you faced, and their rank was similar. The player contributing less was generally given the higher tier even though the wins/loss were still even. They ranked diamond instead of onyx while the teammate was given a champion title. Maybe it takes into account the damage dealt, kad, headshots, and precision weapons. How the ranking system works, i have no idea.

Just win your games. This is Halo not CoD.

How does this apply to This guy’s situation?

Have you seen my match history?

But surely one game cannot so drastically effect your score like that? Especially considering that I placed first in 7 of the 10 matches I played, and went positive in all games that me and my teammate won.

I was just super confused that’s all. It seems to be good at placing you in a low Tier when you play badly, but cop out when you perform extremely well. This is not the first time it’s happened too.

I know I’m not bad at the game, I’ve been playing Halo competitively since Halo 2 and got past the learning curve in Halo 5 pretty quickly. I can honestly say I dominate in most of my games, against people of equal or higher level.

Yet when I’m being placed the game is extremely reluctant to put me in a high elo, and has no trouble putting me in a low one when I under perform.

I just want to be able to play my placement matches and not get put in a tier that I don’t deserve, playing against plats - diamonds is not fun. I just win most of the time and never get good practice against people who are just as tryhard as my friends and I.

Yeah the “special sauce” math in the background calculating your rank during placements that 343 spoke of is flawed. If any players in the world deserve Onyx (and Champion if they play MM enough), its the actual professional players and Ive seen them in ranks spanning from platinum to champion. The fact that they might have played placements together with the main slayers of the pro scene might mean that they themselves got less kills etc. But that doesnt change the fact that they all deserve ranks higher than platinum.

Can really understand your madness, but unless we dont have a ‘‘one time reset button’’ to start from new we just need to get over it.
If youre still playing wiht your friend shouldnt you get some good ranks to fight with?

This happened to me on my second account. My friend and i won 8/10 games, he got a diamond and i got plat. My KDA was 5 and his was 6.

This rank system is terrible. I placed silver 1 in slayer. Most of the games I played today I performed well and a few games I was carrying the team by getting almost half the kill count.

no idea why they didn’t build a performance based rank system that placed everyone on rank 1. the gap between players who do well, average and bad would have just sorted itself out.

I won all ten games with 140 kills, 24 assists and 40 deaths and I was placed in diamond. So yeah, it makes no sense why your friend got champion.

Yeah I’ve moved past it now, I do love this game so sure enough I came back to it. I just couldn’t find the patience in me to play doubles after yesterday haha.

In my honest opinion, no matter how well you perform you should never get placed in Champion straight away, it would be like placing in Challenger Tier in league of legends, that would be insane.

All in all the game is good, but it needs a bit (dare I say) a lot of work. There are many areas that need to be addressed, but once those problems are gone and the game is operating at 100% fluidity, I wholeheartedly believe Halo 5 will probably be the best Halo. It just has some really annoying kinks at the moment.

man… this sounds buggy to me.

H2/H3 ranking system.

We want you back.
