Im new to hw2 and rts games. whenever I play multiplayer 3v3 I always get rushed whilst im still building everything, what am i doing wrong? what strategy should I use to start the game? Sorry if i sound like a complete retard, im just confused.
Honestly your not doing anything wrong, this game caters more towards rushing then halo wars 1 did.I would watch some videos on YouTube to see how to prepare against every leader
Because u should not be focusing on buidling your base, u should focus on building units and getting map control. Pump units from your base asap and throw a barracks 4th or 5th and get rush units, take some nodes, scout, and you will be on your way

Oh no hw1 was way worse, u could have an arby at your base before 1 min and get it completely destroyed before min 3
Haha. I just picked up the game as well. Seems like the trend is to coordinate/counter a rush within the first 5-8 minutes of the game. After that, things will play more smoothly to what a normal Halo Wars game is.
What I did was look up ways on how to either build supplies/power fast–and lose a lot. You have to learn how most people play certain leaders and this can lead to losing but you get a feel for things…speaking of leaders, pay attention to what leader(s) your oppenent is. For instance, a lot of Colony players rush with building destroyers so I have anti infantry at the ready within the first few minutes.
Don’t worry, you’ll get the hang of things. Just keep trying.

There was only like 3 types of rushes in hw1 and less leader abilities,so Idk how it’s worse
Ok first yes you should play 1s to get better.
if you want to learn different leaders then team wars are ok.
but typical rushes are at 3 minutes.
3v3s is a whole different game and some bad ha bits are learned in 3s honestly.
3s are about rushing 1 opponent and removing them from the game at the 3 minute mark or defending the rush and taking map control.
1s you learn more what is critical of the game.
always take minibases.
Dont build all the buildings cause only 1 builds at a time this allows you to build units to gather resources.
Typical scouting should occur at the 2 minute mark to see if your opponent is rushing.
building a turret at 2 minutes is also a good habit but don’t upgrade it enless they are going to rush.
getting minibases allows for faster leader points and eventually helps economy
if you decide for a fast tech approach that’s a different starting build order.
Most started build orders are supply supply generator upgrading the first supply and getting resources to upgrade the generator.
fast tech would be building a generator first and upgrading it immediately.
Each leader is different and you should learn each leader to understand your opponent better.
but 3s or team wars you have to be prepared for the rush and you can’t defend a rush by yourself you need team help.
If you are new to RTS that is to be expected unless you were a natural.
As they have told you, map control is key, use your first minutes to get your infantry to gather as many resources as they can., scout, see what your enemy is doing, plan accordingly and as fast as you can, and know your economy (cost of buildings and units), and plan accordingly as well to be as efficient as you can.
And learn what makes every leader strong so you know what you can expect.
I can offer a couple of tips after looking at your most recent games:
Maybe avoid ranked team games for a while, until you have a solid team at least. I’d say either do ranked 1s or team war.
If you like Cutter, focus on supply over power at first. Last game, you went Generator > supply pad > generator. Instead, try going double supply pad, then generator 3rd. This will give you more supply to pump units with.
You made a ton of jackrabbits. Rabbits are really bad right now. Other than for basic scouting, I would recommend that you avoid them entirely. Marines are much more useful.
Players with over 1k games still lose plenty of their placement matches, don’t get discouraged, especially if you’re new to it.
Just keep blasting “Eye of The Tiger” by Survivor on repeat.
im -Yoinking!- done with this game now. the story is cool and all, but it feels impossible to win online games, not to mention flaming teammates. ive watched loads of hw2 strategy guides which havent helped a bit.

Honestly there aren’t very many good guides on YouTube.
I’d suggest playing with someone to teach you. Feel free to add me and I can show you openers
I would practice against AI first, then learn to scout because that saves lives, learn the appropriate counters, and then play 1vs1 first. Then expand into teams when you have good friends or players on Xbox.
