A while back, I ran a writing competition on Waypoint where fans could have a go at writing Halo content themselves and even learn from their experience. Complete with feedback.
I’m just wondering if there’s still an interest for that sort of thing here. Would you like to enter a writing contest, or join a writing workshop covering aspects of writing, with a particular focus on the Halo universe?

Didn’t I take part in one a while back? I seem to remember writing some fan-fiction on here for an unofficial writing competition or something. Anyways, as a self published author, I love to write and I am very much interested.
could be cool. how would it take place?
I already write some halo fanfiction so that could be interesting

Oh I already have my own story being worked on seriously and being uploaded on Ao3 so of course, I would love to work on something else to help expand my ideas for the Halo Universe.

This sounds like an awesome idea! As a halo fanfiction writer myself, I would certainly be interested.

Been a while but I’d love to give it a shot! Honestly you were a really good judge last time so I’m certainly looking forward to another shot at it.

Heck yeah I want more writing contests! I’ve written and posted 2 more of my own fanfictions here since the last one I participated in. I just posted one now taking place in War Games.

I’m new to the forums and only just saw this. I’d be seriously down for a writing contest. It’s something I’ve been wishing 343 would organize.
Speaking of writing, does anyone have any thoughts on how to get eyes on your Halo fiction, generally?
I’ve started putting mine up on a website I started for my Halo short stories but It’s hard to get traffic. So much competition. Anyone got any suggestions?
I don’t really know. That’s something I’ve been wanting to know more about. There’s sites like AO3, but other than that, I use Reddit and Waypoint for now. Apparently the r/HaloStory subreddit doesn’t allow fanfiction posts, so I just do it on the general r/Halo sub. There is one for Halo fanfiction, but it has very few members and is very inactive.

Thanks, I’ll check those out. I have lots of Halo short fiction that I’m putting up as they’re finished but gaining any traction at all has been hard (it’s early days yet, I guess). I’m trying to write stuff that fills in gaps without contradicting any of the vast lore that’s been established. It’s great fun but a bit pointless if there’s no one reading it.

AO3 and Fanfiction would be your best bets because they have a high viewership (I use FFN)

Yeah, I know what you mean. I do that too with Destiny and just started trying with Halo after a long while. I’ve been wanting Bungie to start a scholarship for writers who can do this with original characters, and it would be really cool if 343 did it too. But I can see it being a little more complicated in Halo.

I replied to you and included a link to the blog, Winter Contingency, where I put up my Halo short stories but it disappeared before being approved . I guess they don’t like us putting links in our posts. I’m interested in seeing your work and, if you’re curious about mine. maybe DM me and we can share URLs that way?
Yeah, for sure! I’m about to post chapter 2 of my story right now.
I don’t know how to message people since this site got reworked though, so you’ll have to message me lol.

Wow, you’re right. There doesn’t seem to be a DM function anymore. My blog doesn’t come up on Google (not enough traffic as yet), but if you use Duck Duck Go and type in ‘winter contingency wordpress’ it comes up first thing. All my finished short stories are on there. And you can message me on the blog with the link to yours so I can go check it out.
Actually, sorry if it’s rude to ask, but are you over 18? Some of my work contains a bit of strong language and also there’s quite a lot of violence (duh, it’s Halo). But it’s really only meant for readers 18+.
lmao yes, I am. I don’t have that, but I have Reddit which is where I post my stories too.
Just search Rescue on Requiem, and it should immediately come up in the halo subreddit.
I hope my English can be further improved. The software’s translation function was unreliable, and I couldn’t translate the large number of novels I had written in Chinese into English.
Fortunately, my reading comprehension is good enough to understand your work.
You guys did a great job.
