I’ve noticed recently that there is an exploit to steal kills for wraiths and scorpions. Example: I boarded a wraith and planted a grenade, but when it detonated, a teammate shot the wraith and got credit for the kill with a grenade for scoring the last hit. I have also been the perpetrator before, although unintentionally. I figured this would be something people would like to know.

Ive noticed this as well, while i was with a couple of friends we decided to focus fire on the tanks and one of my buddies managed to plant a grenade in the back and yet somehow I got the kill. I suppose the same thing happened there.
I’ve also noticed that when I killed Tank master Rok with my Splaser the enemy team still managed to steal the points from me by shooting at the exploding wreckage (as he is technically not dead at that point).
This is how I’ve figured it, the last player to damage the vehicle is awarded the kill. I’ve had destroys stolen from me, and stolen them from others. Other day I was firing at an apparently undamaged Wraith, and suddenly it blew up and I got the kill. Right after some kid started raging about how he had his Wraith kill stolen, so I assume he had boarded from behind.
My theory is that sometimes there is a bit of lag and the AI erroneously awards the kill to a shooting player. Probably using rapid fire heavy damage weapons such as the SAW would increase the odds of this happening.
I agree with you that it should always be the boarding player with one exception: If someone else shoots the vehicle before the grenade goes off then they obviously get the kill. Once I boarded, planted, and right as I jumped off someone splasered the tank, so that’s OK as far as I’m concerned.

Sad thing is, the poor sap who boarded the Wraith gave his life to earn that kill, but died with nothing but an Assist medal.

Yea I had match where I mounted the enemy and threw the grenade only to get the assist even though I took it down basically. Then again I got a medal for getting a kill in a wraith even though I blew up an enemy wraith and never spawned a wraith the whole match.

Fortunately it was just a simulation, the UNSC doesn’t have so many Spartans that it can afford to have live fire lethal exercises.

Something is definitely not right with the kill feed…i was in a banshee once and got a kill with a scorpion? Very confusing!! haha
Haha that explains why i get a assist if i shoot on a friendly tank or my tank to kill the hjacker xD
