They can’t do anything D:
At least in Halo 2 & 3 you could give them better weapons and they’d help a little bit

It’s not that they can’t do anything. It’s that they stumble from shots and die from plasma grenades. A lot.
Imo, CE marines are better because the ones in H2, H3, and Reach have pea sized brains for balancing. In other words, Bungie nerfed them in exchange for more health (and less stumbling) and capabilities (i.e. weapon swap, vehicle driving).
CE marines depend on you. If you do badly, they’ll do badly. People have accomplished major feats like keeping all the marines alive at the T&R grav lift loading zone on Legendary. They did well, made the Covies panic, the marines were supportive.
Of course, there is an exception to this rule: randomly generated Covie spawns. Getting 5+ Zealots is freaking annoying and ruins the moment.
I was playing Assault on the control room, and everythime i went to snipe an enemy Sgt.Johnson sniped them first. now thats a good A.I. ally.
That’s what you expect from A.I Bots LOL.
What’s worst is, they can’t drive
I reckon they act as target while i run and get behind the enemy pretty good
They might not help physically killing the enemies much, but remember this is 10 year old AI!

Agreed. Overtime, Bungie improved the A.I in Halo, but A.I’s will never come close to REAL player ‘skills’
> CE marines depend on you. If you do badly, they’ll do badly.
More specifically, they fight aggressively, and if you aggressively alongside them, they can accomplish great things. At the bottom of the grav lift, for instance, if you can kill the elites and send the other enemies into a panic, the marines will sometimes succeed in tearing most of the other enemies to bits with AR fire and grenades.
They’re not bad, you’re just letting them down by expecting them to fight the same way you normally would in the later games. But one of Halo 1’s greatest strengths is that it rewards aggressive gameplay in some places.
Also, the marines are supposed to seem vulnerable. They’re not supposed to be galaxy-dominating forces of victory, and you’re supposed to feel bad when you let them die.
I never thought the AI were worth anything and did anything. I did think that they were great for being the bait though!

I didn’t think the AI in Halo 2 was dumbed down much they were pretty smart (The Marines and Elites liked to dodge roll too much though, but the Halo 1 AI doesn’t seem that smart to me either. (The Exception being the Occasional Marine with a Sniper)
The marines are much more useful in CEA than any other Halo game I have played. I try to keep them alive so that I can get through missions on Legendary.
Friendly AI have always been useless in video games. Especially on the hardest difficulty.

They thrive on the weak and need good leadership. That’s what makes them effective. With a little improvement, they have the potential to become the equivalent of Elite Majors rather than Jackals.
Precisely.
Well, I wouldn’t say that. Some people actually want to have galaxy-dominating forces of victory. As for me, I have my 61 Councilors to do my bidding and keep me company.

To be honest, I’ve had more frustration with friendly Elites than marines. I just don’t trust marines (ever since I played Halo 3) so I’m a bit biased. I can safely say the marines in H2 could kick -Yoink- if they were well equipped. The marines in H3… not so much.
warthog turret, scorpion, random ghosts, this is what the marines are for
The marines in CEA can throw some good grenades.
Bungie is notorious for having less than stellar friendly AI. Though they aren’t that bad when they take the gunner seat. Hell in my experience, they known to more useful that way. Just never ever let them drive or let the passengers use explosive weaponry.

try winning a fight against an AI controlled Halo 3 “Ghost”
(not the vehicle)
Well they’ve got to strike a balance - and I think Bungie did a good job. It would be boring if the AI did all the work.
Marines were honestly best for DISTRACTIONS…clearly you didnt see that to use effectively
> Marines were honestly best for DISTRACTIONS…clearly you didnt see that to use effectively
I don’t like to get my marines used as Targets for the Covies I try to keep them alive
They are amazing and by far the best AI allies in the whole halo series.
