I’ve been thinking of Halo 5 and 6 lately and where the Halo universe might end up and I think I’ve came to an interesting scenario.
Imagine a return of Thel 'Vadam(Rtas too!) and the allied Sangheili forces helping the UNSC fight off a stronger Storm Covenant who are allied with the (Still very much alive) Didact and his forces(Not just Prometheans but possibly much more powerful Forerunner technology) in Halo 5. Alliances would once again be forged and maybe even some broken.
Amidst all the chaos of war another ancient evil thought defeated returns more powerful than ever, The Flood. Creating a massive three way battle between the UNSC/Allied Covenant, Didact/Storm Covenant and Gravemind led Flood forces.
However this would not be the “rush at you in a brightly lit room only to get blasted easily by a shotgun” Flood from Halo 3. The Flood in Halo 5 would be done right. They would once again be scary even terrifying to fight maybe even more so than they were in Halo CE. Imagine them fitting their descriptions from the books, a terrifying parasite consuming all, twisting and corrupting the bodies of what once were your friends and enemies alike. In previous Halo’s we see marines being traumatized by the same creatures we kills almost effortlessly, what if however those traumatizing experiences were truly that, not just for the NPCs but for the first time for the player as well. What if we were scared of the Flood?
The flood can be just about anything. They have their basic forms, but involve the precursors and the floods ability to become any form they want when enough biomass is gathered and…there is a ton of potential for them.
Between all the evidence of them returning from the forerunner trilogy, as well as the CEA terminals talking about them waiting in the frozen space outside our galaxy…to the librarian saying the spartan projet was made to prepare us for something (NOT the didact).

This right here. The flood is a better enemy (from a story standpoint) than all the other enemies of the series combined. Especially after Primordium.
> The flood has a lot more potential, thanks largely to primordium, to be expanded and grow.

> The covenant on the other hand seem to be running out of ideas.
8 games is far too many. I say6, good riddance (if they’ll finish that deal off in SpOps).
Yes, certainly. The Flood are central to Halo’s story.
Naturally, they’d need a big overhaul in terms of gameplay. I think making them vulnerable to regular melee attacks in Halo 3 was a mistake. It made things far too easy.

Yeah it was kind of silly how the primarily melee enemy type died instantly when you hit them in melee.
Didn’t it also cause them to burst into pieces too? making ressurection impossible? I forget.
Yes, but much more terrifying than ever before. I completely agree with you OP, the flood should be revamped, more terrifying and much more varied in appearance. As in their should be 6 different forms of each flood combat form, for each species, so it would look like that they was a hoard of terrifying necro-beasts chasing you, just like in the motion comic “Mona Lisa” but worse. The flood should also be much more intelligent than before, and by intelligent I mean that they actually utilize their surrounding and don’t just have overpowered health and shielding.
Flood should be much more animalistic, they should scream more, take cover and grab all sorts of weapons and even objects to attack you with and if flood get within close proximity, instead of double pummeling you away, they should actually go into a kill animation so it gives you and teammates the chance to save you and you could save yourself by rapidly pressing or holding “B” to fling them off in some spectacular way out use the weapon in hand to dismember them.
as long as they are a brand new style
yes
I dotn want to see the flood of old ever again
the flood from wars was a great new taste
something similar could be cool
I’ve been wanting to see the Flood return since playing ODST. They’re a central part of the lore, and Halo just isn’t the same without them. As is evidenced through recent Halo media, their story-arc is far from over, and they can continue to threaten life in the galaxy. We should also expect some gameplay adjustments to the Flood in future Halo games.
If thy do bring the Flood back, they better do it right. They need to be an enemy that terrifies you, not be a nuisance. Think along the lines of Dead Space 1, the atmosphere should be like that, dark, alone, no idea when they will jump out at you. That is the Flood. Also I want the AI of all enemies to stop attacking every enemy action and to prioritise the Flood when they appear in a fight. I’m sick of fighting through levels with Covenant just to have the Flood turn up and the two factions ignore each other or work together to kill me, the player. All the lore, books etc, show Covenant and UNSC forces stopping their fight with each other to defeat the greater threat of the Flood together, yet it never happens in the gameplay unless its a scripted moment.
I don’t know… I’m torn between wanting to see the flood back… (kinda like an old friend). But at the same time I really want to see a new form of enemy. I suppose if 343 revamps the flood somewhat I will be OK with that.
