So far 343 has expressed that once this free season of Spartan Ops is finished they would like to continue to produce a second season that we would have to pay for.
But I recently saw a poll that showed a pretty large majority would rather have Spartan Ops over Firefight because it has “a story element” to it. And that was a little disheartening to see that people would rather enjoy a game mode that takes no skill and cannot be lost than have Firefight, which in it’s original form actually took skill in the form of communication, accuracy, and survival. I’m not talking about the unlimited lives that Reach threw at us.
So sure, even I can agree I enjoy the 4 minute cutscene we get each week, especially with the inclusion of Halsey and the Librarian being mentioned, but I sure as hell wouldn’t spend a dime on this season. Would anyone that didn’t have access to their mom’s credit card? I’m sorry but I could skip the entire gameplay element of Spartan Ops and watch the full cutscene on waypoint for free and not have any regrets.
If Spartan Ops had limited lives, then there would always be that one guy who ruins it for everyone else.
Now if there was an option to limit lives in offline and private matches of Ops, then that would work, but seeing as I’ve carried many matches of Spartan Ops, limited lives are not the answer for public matchmaking
Spartan Ops or whatever else, 343i haven.t show me something worth paying DLC for.
Futur patch will change that, I hope but for now H4 is away from my pucket.

I don’t think Spartan Ops should have limited lives for the reason you stated but that’s besides the issue. Throwing enemy after enemy with heavy weapons to create an environment with a high death rate doesn’t mean it’s a challenge. All it means is “if I throw myself enough times at the enemy eventually I’ll get through this”. Very little is any real strategy besides run and gun needed to get through any area. You die but hopefully you took a couple out to make it easier on yourself when you respawn.
I’m asking if people would pay money to play this in it’s current state, not try to balance it or improve it.
I’ll buy any Halo map pack, add on, what ever, til the glorious end. Halo is something that we are treasured to experience and I will support it no matter how many issues, angry “fans”, glitches, bad maps, spammers, whatever. Halo is a platinum in a pile of silvers.
As for Season 1, nope. The highly repetitive mission structure and map selection doesn’t warrant a purchase from me.
If I were to purchase Season 2, I expect there to be something different from the norm, not just “Crimson, Drop Pods incoming” “Egg heads this, egg heads that.” “Push the buttons here and there.” “Sniper Valley.”
I highly doubt they’ll change much, if at all in the next season.
I would not pay for it. And to say that Spartan Ops has a “story element” to it is being incredibly generous. There are better stories to be had in the Bestsellers section of a bookstore.
Personally I really enjoy the Spartan Ops missions. The story aspects and cinematics are truly amazing, but that said, I would like to see some challenge added. Like you said there is no penalty for failure if the whole squad dies.
It would be a hell of a lot more challenging on Legendary if there was a similar spawn system like the 4-player Co-op in Campaign.
Spartan Ops is very boring. The dialogue is very hard to hear. The lines are recycled every mission, especially “Give Crimson some new toys, I can arrange that commander.” Play spaces are recycled multiple times (which isnt bad, but not when its go from point A to B to A, every single time). You can’t skip the intros. The marine AI are completely busted, except for when they are on a turret. Playing online with other usually lags. Theres no punishment for dying. No way to boot ah* teammates who destroy vehicles.
Sorry but even if spartan ops were a dollar, i wouldn’t pay for it. However Spartan Ops is GOD compared to Halo 4 Multiplayer. Extreme glitches, awful balancing, ordinance up the a**, a complete disgrace to the Halo series.
What annoys me about Spartan Ops is how repetitive it is. When it was announced, I joyfully imagined something akin to Spec Ops in MW2/3, with many different objectives, like defending an area, assaulting another, defusing bombs, or driving as fast as you can. Spartan Ops however, is just a constant “go to this spot, kill these dudes, press this button, looks like you’re coming ho- WAIT NEW INTEL NOPE YOU CANT COME HOME NEXT MISSION”. The story isn’t even that engaging sadly.
Would I pay for Season One? Hell no. The “story” only just now got somewhat interesting due to Halsey showing up, but that is more on account of her already being a strong and interesting character to begin with, not due to anything original from 343. I have found ways to make Spops challenging and more fun, but only in private matches with personal challenges between myself and friends, e.g. not dying. Other than that its way too easy for my taste, and I’m on the same page as you OP in regards to Firefight.
I will be very surprised if 343 manages to get people to pay for another season of spops. Even if it has all new play spaces that aren’t rehashed maps. The game mode just had an underwhelming first impression, imo. Add new play spaces AND lives, skulls, and better missions other than simply pushing buttons, and then we’ll talk.
> Rumor says that this season 2 will cost you 3200MSP…
>
> So will you pay for such thing?
No. Just no. There is no way that is true. Their entire marketing and sales team would have to be drunk to set a price that high for spops, and even then the most drunk person would have more sense than that. That is more than the War Games map pass by 1200 MS points. Just no way.
Considering I’ve not even touched spartan ops, no I wouldn’t pay for it. That section of the game doesn’t really exist for me. I play Halo for PvP multiplayer.
