Would you like a Canon difficulty modifier skull?

One thing I’ve always wanted in Halo is a canon difficulty. Personally I’ve settled on legendary being the actual strength of the enemies but your allies become walking paper mache there. Having a skull that makes grenades mininukes, allied AI lethal to more than themselves and plasma rounds that splash with damage over time would be awesome. A canon difficulty would also settle up on alot of things in the air.

I.E. How many shots does it take to pop an elites shields or how many melees does it take to get center of a grunts skull?

These questions and more answered with a canon difficulty. So why not have it, and Elites in MP?

Thought Heroic was always considered the somewhat canonical difficulty?

Yeah, even the Marines are stronger than you when you play on Legendary. I think Heroic is the most fitting difficulty in terms of canon.

I believe Bungie stated at one time that Heroic is the canonical difficulty.

Not to sound like an -Yoink- but I don’t think what they say about Halo’s canon carries weight anymore. I used to assume Heroic was the proper canon difficulty but that was because i’d get rompt on Legendary at times and assumed that MC or Thel wouldn’t make it. As I went on through my Halo career it seemed like Legendary was the right area for the Legends.

I would rather have a custom skull ala Reach firefight so I could tweak the campaign to be as silly or serious as I want it to be at during any given run. I can’t imagine it would be terribly difficult to disable achievements when a custom skull is active to prevent people blowing through the legendary campaign.

Its not as if they ever said that Heroic was exactly representing canon. Rather it generally represents the relative balance in terms of how much damage that the player and certain enemies can dish out and take. Legendary damage tables work against the player, Easy works in the players favor, Normal/Heroic are similar, but Heroic includes all the encounters that would be absent in Easy/Normal without the Legendary difficulty modifiers.

But even in Halo 4, the description for Heroic says this is the way Halo was meant to be played

Sorry OP but traditionally Heroic is the canon difficulty.

I’ve always assumed it was just Normal. You know, because it’s “normal”.

Nope lol, normal is abit on the easy side, while the real easy is like a beginner mode.

I thought those notes were just there to tell you how the gameplay will feel.

Heroic is canon.

Legendary is for Halo ninjas. Respect.

If I recall, the text saying this is the way Halo was meant to be played on Heroic started with Halo 3.

That really doesn’t say much to a general gamer though but to Halo fans that can indict a canonical sense with how much damage is dealt to you and how much you are able to deal.

I’d buy that for a dollar.

Your right of course but the idea here is to have a skull that does express the canon. Even if heroic is the settled upon canon difficulty it on it’s own ins’t canon, atleast in terms of how things work in the Halo Universe.

By that logic then we have to change with ever updated Halo. The MCC says

“Your enemies are as numerous as they are ferocious; their attacks are devastating. Survival is not guaranteed.”

Does that just cancel what was said before or do they exist together now, two corpses, in one grave?

That’s what I did at first as well but as I went on I assumed that MC and Thel were better fighters than me and would be able to survive Legendary.

Is that what it really says for Heroic? That’s usually the Legendary description.

Actually I think that’s the Halo 1 text for Heroic.

It’s not much about your skill in how you play, but how much damage does. The amount of plasma rifle shots it takes to deplete your shields is seen as “accurate” to the lore.

… no heroic is not a ‘canon difficulty’. Doesn’t even work for ODST and it would change so much in different games…

Idk about any of you,

but I play Heroic first for a canon play-through…
then I do Legendary. Ninja.
