Like the title says. If the UNSC were to exist would you join? Take part of the Spartan Program and become a super soilder, become a standard soldier whether its marine/pilot/etc, maybe you’d like the secretive style of things and prefer ONI, or you’d like to drop feet first with the ODST’s?
Personally if something like the spartan program existed I would definitely join in. Just the thought of becoming a stronger version of yourself both mentally and physically and pretty much becoming a real life superhero is just too sweet to pass up. You get all the respect of your peers and pride in yourself for making it through the gruesome training. Also, becoming a ODST wouldn’t be so bad either.
Edit: Please state why you chose your choice. Also would you have liked to have served during the Insurrections, the covenant war, or post war (i.e after halo 3).
Certainly post-war era. I wouldn’t want to be around during the Insurrection or Covenant War.
Finally a fun topic!
During the Insurrection? Eh, that’s a tricky one. If I were an outer colonist, I would probably join the Innes. If I was from the inner colonies I would probably not join the UNSC. I would probably not buy into the whole “terrorist” thing.
During the Covenant war? Of course. Especially seeing the planets being glassed, the economy being shattered, and the wounded soldiers coming home. I would want to help save humanity. And then there’s the propaganda, that would definitely suck me in. And I’ve read that the H-C war has affected every human on every planet in some way. So I’m pretty sure I would know a few UNSC soldiers that would probably try to convince me to join. Or even if they did not want me to join I would any way. I would probably just join the Space Navy, or Army.
Post war? Again yes. If I didn’t serve before, I would definitely would then. As far as the people know the UNSC kicked the Covenants Yoink! and saved humanity all by themselves. And then there’s the possibility of becoming a Spartan, that above all other things would get me to serve. I would claw my way to being a Spartan, at any cost. Then I would brag to my family and friends.
This was a good topic, it really made me think.
Can’t say that I would. I’d rather avoid fighting or supporting conflict where possible, and it doesn’t help that the UNSC is a bloated, criminal, aggressive imperial State, either. The ethical position I hold dear just wouldn’t allow for it. If I found myself in as good a Future History as Halo’s universe presents I’d much rather just live it up, find some future lovers and start a future family.
I’m soft like that.
Granted, given how I feel about the UNSC empire, you certainly wouldn’t find me living on any Inner Colony; and if I were on an Outer Colony that same ethical position I hold so dearly would probably drive me to fight.
But it wouldn’t be for the UNSC.

Thanks! Yes I just started wondering this today and thought it would be an interesting topic.
This particular ad-campaign would probably convince me right away.
I would probably be living in a colony so i would probably be an ini. During the Covenant war i would just probably be chilling in my colony not messing around, or try to join the Covenant if they would leave me alone. After war i would join to become a Spartan then secretly steal all the Spartan-making info and escape to my colony to build my own Spartans to defend my Colony MWA AHAHAHHAHAHHA!!!

Well, what else would you call nuking a colony, destroying a civilian passenger cruiser ship, bombing nightclubs, etc?
I’d join the UNSC.

Well, it depends on which Insurrectionist cell you’re talking about. The People’s Occupation, the Innies from Madrigal and the Freedom and Liberation Party definitely fall under the “terrorist” tab, while some other cells seem to only focus on military targets.
However, since we know very little about each individual cell, we can’t assume that just because these group of Innies attack military targets means that they never went after civilians as well.
Being a civilian in the halo series is quite dangerous. They’ve been attacked by the insurectionist, murdered and glasses by the covenant, infected by the flood,
and composed and turned promethian by the didact.
Pretty much everything the soldiers deal with the civilians do also. Since being a civilian leaves you quite defenseless I’m going to go with joining the UNSC.
I’d go with fighting during the covenant war because otherwise you increase the odds for humans winning.

I’d imagine I’d be fine if I was at Earth and someplace BESIDES New Phoenix or Africa.
During the Insurrection if I was in the outer colonies I’d probably join the Innies and if I was on earth or inner colonies I’d probably stay out of it all. During the Covenant War I like to think I would join up in some capacity. Post war there isn’t a chance I’d join, I rather like living in peace.
Love all the posts in this thread, its really interesting to hear everyones perspective!
TBH? I’d rather become a Spartan IV AND then join the Insurrection! I mean look just look at it(lol)!
That planet Venezia is turning out to be a cool power and what would be cooler than for me to be their top dog player being a spartan lolol
Just a fun thought.
BTW its look they are closer to living with Aliens than the UNSC
Id join ONI. Mainly because I’m a rather quiet, secretive person… But I would have ambitions to be the Head of ONI. Then turn them into something better… or not… (who knows what someone would do if they were dumped in THAT seat.)
If my colony got whipped out and I survived the evacuation, maybe. If I lost my family/friends. Yes.

You have to be smart to be in ONI, and you have to be a sociopath to excel in ONI.
And I don’t think you understand the dangers being in ONI. You will be deployed in the field, often very dangerous.

You would probably be dead.
I’d join to be an ODST, befriend an elite after the Great Schism and play a game of horse using a brute’s head with him while drinking beer and having a grunt as our butler.
That’s a tricky one. I definitely wouldn’t fight against the insurrectionists, while I disagree with many of the methods used by many of the insurrectionist groups, I’m sympathetic to their plight and in many ways, am more against the UEG.
The war against the Covenant is a bit different. Honestly, I’m not much of a fighter so at first, I highly doubt I’d join the military, but, as the war went on and humanity was being backed into a corner, I might do something then.
Post War I think I would be much like I was before the Covenant appeared.
