Would you buy DLC?

So the Halo 5 monthly updates have stopped as far as we know.
Apparently we will still get more updates but when or what they are is a complete mystery.

To be honest, the updates weren’t all that good. Each update added so little that you forgot what was new within days of its release. Warzone Firefight is the only update that really has changed the game for me. As a whole the updates are great and have added a lot but when they were being released one by one they seemed kinda overrated. Let’s be real here. The only new content we will be getting is new stuff to throw into the req pool or new maps (probably remixes.)

So my question is: Would you buy DLC?
Now I dont mean any sort of req packs, armor packs, or weapon skin packs because we already have had versions of those.
I’m talking about Map packs. Maps that are all original OR brought back from the previous halo games.
Would you buy a map pack like that? Where each map was created from scratch and/or brought back from other Halo games?

I would. I miss the older maps. Even Halo 4 maps like Haven.
What are your thoughts on this?

(I know that my opinion on the updates and the req system are a bit negative but lets try to stay on topic here and not make this another hate thread)

I never minded the old map pack DLC model. If Halo went back to that, I’d be ok with it. I’m just not ok with a game launching lacking so much multiplayer content, with little transparency about why the content is missing or if/when it will be put back in.
If they had tried to charge us for the updates we got when Halo 5 launched with such little multiplayer content, I would have stopped playing.

I would, always have. I wouldn’t be happy about the move though, knowing how this panned out each and every launch before.

If we’re going to pay for DLC, I would like for it to be a campaign type of DLC where the enjoyment isn’t tied to getting matched with a bunch of people that may or may not have the purchasing habits I do.

Not really. The last thing we need is a community divided by who bought the DLC and who didn’t.

DLC was handled poorly since Reach.

Nope. Especially if they are map packs, especially if they’re remakes as well cuz it’s not any better than remixes lol. Real worthy dlc is stuff that is actually new and adds to play time. What good is a map if I can’t play it due to jimmy2415x not having it in my lobby? Not to mention even dlc only playlists have always been low populated.

With the microtransactions still here? No, that’s triple-dipping on making money. I think they should just do the free updates, but next time release the game with an actual good amount of content for $60 and then add quality original content with some remakes smattered in there. Halo 5’s DLC model was a nightmare imo personally.

Halo 5 is a really good Halo game. Adding back old maps like prison, valhalla, countdown, swordbase, guardian, boardwalk, high ground and much more would be epic. If 343 added back maps like these with a classic playlist and maybe Warzone Invasion with playable elites + chopper, falcon, CQB armor, EOD and Hayabusa armor, sentinel beam, spiker, bruteshot, mauler, needlerifle (reskin), sticky detonator, CE plasma pistol and plasmarifle. At the end, I would love having a Halo CE, 2, 3, 4, Reach and wars emblem + characters in emblem form like Captain Keyes, Cortana, Gravemind, Prophet of Truth and Sgt. Johnson. + voice overs for Firefight. Then I would pay for a DLC

That all makes sense. I suppose I just want more from this game and I miss some of the older maps. Basically I came to a conclusion that the only way we would get several original or re-done maps would be through paid DLC…

No. I’m against paid DLC in general. It has driven dev’s to release bare bones games while holding back content to sell as DLC. Star Wars Battlefront I’m looking at you.

What even gives you the impression that paid dlc "guarantees"good content? Do you know how many devs make -Yoink- dlc for 20$? 30$? -Yoink- season passes?

DLC has turned into a -Yoink- way to hold back content and make money. I actually quite like the system at the moment. Basically, Halo 5’s increasing success has lead to more content being created, 343 has listened to the community more. As has been said, DLC splits the community, and while I loved Reach DLC maps, I also love new maps on Halo 5. The difference is the maps and content in Halo 5 was for the whole community, but was still paid for.

For me personally: No. I haye paid DLC, it breaks up the already fractured playerbase. But from the sound of things on here, I don’t think many of the “hardcore” types would mind a pay wall.

But I know I would not pay for any DLC, especially since over half of the maps in the game now are horribly forgettable and just don’t play well.

No I would not

I would buy DLC, but not a season pass. If there is a season pass, then the content in it was stripped from the final game to put in it.

It was handled worse in Halo 3 as you were literally locked out of the majority of playlists without it. In halo reach you at least could still play most of the game.

Back on topic though I would say NO. I hate Halo 5 with a passion and would rather sell my xbox and never play video games again than buy the DLC.

I don’t remember that in Halo 3, but in Halo Reach you had to play Triple RNG

  1. Gotta hope you match up with players that all have the map pack
  2. Gotta hope one of those maps in the map pack is available to be picked.
  3. Gotta hope the lobby picks that map over other maps.
  4. (Bonus) Gotta hope it’s a good map.

I don’t remember that as I recently binged Halo Reach with DLC playlists being separated from normal playlists. But in Halo 3 I couldn’t play lone wolves, team snipers, and other stuff because I didn’t wanna buy the DLC. It was probably me just be extremely lucky and never encountering a DLC map in my several hours of play time but I seriously doubt that.

I’m pretty sure they changed it back to a DLC specific playlist after some time. Halo 4 tried doing the same with one of their DLCs and they quickly went back on that.

Map packs should ALWAYS be free for any online game. making them paid is a sure way to divide the online community and break up the population.

I would pay for DLC single player missions though. Not necessarily Locke or Chief. Just little in-universe story missions.
