Not that I can control how this discussion goes, but I don’t intend for this to be a Spartan Ops bashing session. I’ve had a reasonable amount of fun with quite a few of the missions we’ve been given so far. Landgrab was just good fun. Cruising around and causing vehicular mayhem against the Covies is never not good. It felt like a vehicle mission from the campaign. The Phantom shooting at the end of Hacksaw brought back good memories of the rooftop rocket-fest at the end of NMPD HQ in ODST. The Mantis -Yoink!- that concludes Shootout In Valhalla was quite thrilling as well.
Basically, the missions I’ve liked best seemed to offer me something besides simply shooting the Covenant or Prometheans. They reminded me of or gave me a small chunk of an exciting experience from one of the campaigns. Even for some missions that offered only basic shooting, The Didact’s Gift for example, it was distinctly Firefight-like in nature. We had clear waves of Phantom drops and Promethean’s teleporting in. It offered a bit of the experience Spartan Ops replaced. It felt like Firefight was back for twelve or so minutes.
I’d love to see something akin to Invasion be included as a mission. For all of the reaching an artifact that we do, it’d be nice to have to extract something to an LZ rather than have everything we’re after be located conveniently near a teleporter or open spot for a Pelican. Speaking of Pelicans, with them being flyable now, doing an abbreviated version of Halo 3’s The Covenant, Reach’s New Alexandria or 4’s Shutdown could be fun.
It’s somewhat (we did pay for the game after all) free added content and, with that in mind, I find it enjoyable to play the missions each week. I replay the ones I like better two or three more times. I just expected it to take more advantage of the vast plethora of sandbox options Halo gameplay has introduced over the years in its various game modes. For every mission I really like, I’m forced to slog through Sniper Alley in one direction or fight in The Refuge for the seemingly eightieth time. If, or when, it comes time to lay down 800 or 1200 Microsoft points for another season, I’d have trouble doing so if the experience is not expanded.
HELL NO. I am not supporting them anymore after the maps thing yesterday. they have made it clear they are about making money. not making the most competitive game ever.
While I’ve liked the first five episodes, I’ll have to see what the next five have to offer before I could say “Yes I’d buy another”. From the trailer I saw Broadswords, action onboard the Infinity, and some new large vehicle/structure that looks neither Human/Covenant/Flood or Forerunner in origin.
Spartan Ops, particularly the last 2 Episodes or so, are the best thing Halo 4 has to offer. Probably the only part of the game I consider actually making the game remotely worth playing.
Don’t get me wrong, the second half of the Campaign was pretty good too. But the first few missions of Campaign, and Episodes of Spartan Ops, and especially the Multiplayer are really not worth wasting time on.
At least the Multiplayer can be fixed if 343i just pays some attention and makes some changes.
But anyway, yes, after the first Season, I would likely actually buy the second season of Spartan Ops.
Absolutely not, i don’t intend on funding this game studio any further, ever,
Aside from the fact they have ruined my favorite franchise, they have shown they are completely inept at customer service and don’t warrant any further monies spent on them!!
No. I’m finding that It has no real value to me other than an irritation of repetitive maps and terrible characters and dialogue. The CGI cut scenes when done right are always a crowd pleaser. Blizzard certainly proved their in-game worth and Microsoft’s episodic project has the imaginative potential to be of great use for a Halo Skyrim if they ever decided to branch into a massive environment game. Season 2 would have to be pretty dam amazing and even then I would warily watch from the sideline to make sure it’s what I want to pay for.
If Microsoft charges for Season 2 I’m done with Halo 4 other than using this wonderful playlist called Waypoint forums. Destiny, Planetside 2, Hawken, Dust 514, Alien Colonial Marines and simply playing Skyrim can easily fill the void for 2013.
Repeated, re-hashed backgrounds, bland story, awesome cut scenes, so-so action. Nah, i’ll leave it alone. Or just wait for it to glitch free on marketplace lol
