Exactly that. I don’t mind working at all for my stuff, but not when the system is actively working against me.
Grinding in this game is more cumbersome than my actual job was.

Exactly.
If they’re going to give us the option to earn rewards, don’t make it a mindless slog.
I’m a a Halo fan. Don’t be ridiculous.
Go get your bragging rights for your skill brother, they’re waiting for you in the ranked arena.
To be honest at the moment I’ve been assuming that those who have spent a whole bunch of money unlocking cosmetics are hopefully at least a bit embarrassed to be flaunting armor they paid for.
I’m platinum 3 at the moment. Ranked is a separate set of bragging rights and are unrelated to this discussion. I’m just talking about COSMETICS my dude. I want to feel good about the way I look in the opening lineup, but I want to earn it through skill, whether that be in ranked mode or otherwise. And I want 343 to allow me to achieve this by using my skills instead of my very limited TIME.
But the thing is, people aren’t incentivizing them to make any changes. It’s all “Gimme or imma leave” or “I don’t care about the battle pass but Imma chime in anyway.” And I don’t think that’s good at all. They are a company, motivated by money. This poll was meant to convince them if making the battle pass something a normal person could complete in a year was a good idea for revenue.
I mean I’m with you there. When it’s painfully obvious that you paid for it, there’s really no good reason to show off. Basically showing off that you’re a little baby who’d pay to win if he had the chance.
My point is that if the demigod players could make 500xp a match through unbelievable feats of skill and already earn the final reward if they were determined enough, it would mask over the people who paid for it, and allow more people to do so if they want without getting made fun of. That and I think seeing those unique armors would make those money whales even more likely to buy-in, allowing 343 to profit from encouraging their players to perform well.
I really wish we could combine all these posts into one called (battlepass whining) or something.
this forum is a hot dumpster fire
I certainly would be more likely to go back to playing the game if I was rewarded for my skill! Every time I get MVP it feels great until I watch my rank progress 0% because I wasn’t focused on finding a needler or throwing grenades from a moving vehicle lol…
If you don’t care about the BP, fine, you’re not part of this discussion if it doesn’t matter to you. But it does matter to many of us who crave a sense of achievement in multiplayer games.
And who really DOESN’T want to progress at a reasonable pace? Very few people actually believe the current rate is acceptable, even if the season isn’t that important to them.
It’s not really earning through skill when it’s just time played though is it? That’s what a normal progression exp looks like in any game. Performance boosts are usually small enough they make little difference and people who grind out hours of doing barely anything are still much further along than you.
Maybe they should give better unlocks for ranked than just a recon helmet charm, then you can play ranked to look cool.
That is exactly my point!
50xp bonus for a killing spree in Slayer.
whateverthehell bonus for your team capturing the flag.
100xp bonus for winning each match.
Skill. Based. Bonuses. Dangle that big fat carrot at the end of a win to keep the rest of us motivated while we still have time to play at the end of the day. It makes us feel like our time is being considered, since most of us have real jobs but still want to play Halo and have a cool looking Spartan without having to fork over a couple hundred bucks.
And those people who aren’t good enough to earn the same XP rewards we’d be getting? Well they’re the ones who are more likely to pay for stages, especially if there’s heavy emphasis on skill==progress.
And yes, obviously, reward ranked play with something special instead of just my badge that you can’t see unless you look at my profile.
Right now they’re banking on the fact that Infinite is a new Halo game but much of that excitement is going to wear off before their next season if they don’t make this current season as endorphin inducing as Halo Reach.
And yeah, I’m still gonna log an hour most nights playing even if they don’t fix it. But they aren’t making any money off me until I complete this season, which, at this rate, is going to be October 2022, 3 seasons later.
If you gave out those bonuses I’d be level 100 by the weekend. That sounds awful.
Do you plan to log over 500 matches before Saturday? because if so, you’re an exception and NOT the rule. Very few people can spend 83 hours a week playing videogames and afford to live.
Idk, sounds pretty based to me. Not having cosmetics drip fed to you in a financially / psychologically manipulative fashion.
The more exp the give out the shorter the grind. It’s already easily achievable before May 2022.
Which is when the next season starts, what’s your point?
I want to have it done before the end of January without it consuming 4 hours of each day.
And I HATE the grind.
I get good at games to AVOID the grind.
I got 3 stars on every weapon drill because I HOPED I would unlock something for it but turns out NOPE, just get good at the guns lol.
And the game doesn’t stop when you complete the season. Weren’t you the one who said you just like playing the game? Well keep playing it even if you unlock everything for this season. I don’t see how that’s an argument at all.
Reasonably they will want it to to last as close to May as possible so people have consistent unlocks. The idea is to get 1-2 items every day or two you play.
If you go up one single level per day, you’ll still finish the battle pass with two months to spare.
Do two challenges across about 10 games every day
(1.5-2 hours) and you still finish with two months to spare. That’s also not counting the fact we might get bonus challenges for the Fracture events or double exp stuff.
If you do all challenges you’ll finish within 2 months.
That’s also using no double exp tokens.
I don’t know why people are so obsessed with finishing it in three weeks from now.
No one should have to grind 6 months to unlock something they paid 10 dollars for. I can’t believe you keep shilling this horribly broken system.
Also it’s a -Yoink!- video game, people have lives and jobs outside of it.
Because we are TYPE A personalities when we’re playing Halo JUST LIKE OLD TIMES BABAAYYY
In Halo Reach you got a bunch of good -Yoink!- early in the progression and even BETTER -Yoink!- towards the end and it was beautiful, but it was also short lived because once it was over, it was over.
Infinite will not suffer that fate. Infinite is designed to have as many seasons as they have ideas for content to fill them.
And yet Halo Infinite has the most ARDUOUS progression of all the other games because they wanna sell you xp boosts and just hand out level buyouts. Well most of us good players want it to be like in Reach, where you get bonuses for playing like Kratos wearing Mjolnir armor and just focus on doing really well so you can unlock that sweet Recon helmet.
Infinite isn’t rewarding good play. It’s just rewarding participation… but just barely. It’s like the evilest little market gnome walked in and was like “Make your players trudge through tar if they won’t pay extra for boosts.” and they were like “Yeah okay that sounds good…”
And the weekly challenges don’t usually encourage good play. Maybe creative play, and that’s totally fine, I think it should stay the way it is.
But allow us to earn more if we earn more. If I get a 20 kill Rampage medal I don’t expect just a 50xp slapping me across the face at the end for participating, you know?
This guy gets it. I don’t have all day, I’m not some dumb 9 year old playing over winter break. I have commissions to fill and work to do and usually don’t have time to grind out an 8 hour gaming day.
