Hear me out, Halo already has the Energy Sword, and while I love that the game is adding more melee based weapons, I wonder if the idea could have been better used to make a fresh looking weapon, rather than just a remixed version of an already existing one… We saw that the game has given us a Covenant Gravity Hammer, and the gleaming blue Energy Sword we all know and love… but we ALSO know that the UNSC has been working to implement new weapons based off Covenant technology… What if the Prophet’s Bane became a set of dual knives, ones similar to to those we saw used by Fred in “The Package”.
Since they would be light weight, it could be more easily explained why the user is running faster, it would give a COMPLETELY fresh looking weapon, and allow for some rather cool knife assassinations (which we admittedly already have a few of). It would fit with Fred being applied to this game, and just seem more fresh than a different looking energy sword that threatens to make you go blind…
The only problem I see with this, is it’s a knife weapon that you would use to charge at your enemies instead of fire a gun… Which FPS game does that sound most like?
OP-I like your idea but the Prophets’ Bane is in Halo 5 because the Arbiter is in Halo 5. Keep the PB-but you’re right, they should add in Fred’s knives.
Lol, guys, yes I do realize what Legendary weapons are, and the concept behind it…
I’m simply saying that if they are capable of making reskinned weapons, then we should see towards getting FRESH weapons as well, and as we don’t have a melee weapon for the UNSC (or Prometheans, but for more understandable reasons) it would be nice to have them for consideration.
The concepts of the Energy Sword and Gravity Hammer make some amount of sense in a Sci-Fi environment because:
The former is able to melt through most materials, and the latter can literally crush someone into a paste.
They are full-length weapons designed for combat. A Knife could just as easily be stuck onto a gun, even the Brutes figured that out.
They actually make sense in the cultures they were forged in.
I can’t see the UNSC issuing people knives, even plasma knives, and seriously expecting their soldiers to go out and use them instead of their guns.
I could maybe see tools re-purposed as weapons, or a desperate Spartan swinging a chaingun around as a club, but I definitely don’t see the UNSC creating a designated melee weapon.
Why not make PB look like the H3 Energy sword (Thinner, lighter in color, make it stand out a little more by making it shinier) and we keep the H4 model for the regular energy sword a (More blueish and rectangular)
It’d make more sense. After all, the H3 model was the sword the Arbiter actually used to kill Truth. Not some fat yellow paddle.

Yeah but then he got it upgraded and now its redish and has a cool guard.

Are you talking about the new Star Wars lightsaber? :}
My bet is that the Arbiter dies in Halo 5 and then Locke or Chief takes up his sword to avenge him. This explains the need for a new unique model of the Arbiter’s sword, to be more recognisable and to make the scene more poignant.
But it I do think a UNSC melee weapon would be cool. Perhaps a hardlight sword/machete reverse-engineered from Promethean Knight weapons, or maybe a straight up metal machete that’s faster to swing but with less lunge and infinite ammo, although these ideas are pretty similar to an energy sword. I think a UNSC melee weapon would be a re-purposed tool like a laser drill or automated digging tool.
