I’m Really not sure
If the UEG/UNSC still use the Geneva Convention in the 26th Century
Would depend where it is used. Just like the UNSC uses nukes, but doesn’t drop them all over the place casually.
I don’t think Geneva would extend to protecting aliens who were glassing planets, not giving a care about a human agreement.

Really, that’s pretty interesting. Did they inforce rules during the war? Or did they not cover the covenant, just humans vs humans?

The only enforced doctrine during the human covenant war was the Cole protocol.

Ok, well they didn’t enforce very much did they. I don’t think the Nova Bomb would violate the Geneva Convention then, since they don’t seem to have played a big part in the war.
Also would depend on if the Geneva Conventions apply to aliens. I figure that they probably wouldn’t given the Human-Covenant war was a war of near-extinction and there isn’t really anyone the UEG could charge and prosecute for war crimes. And that’s ignoring the UEGs, UNSCs and ONIs violations.
I doubt that it would apply, if it were still used, considering it was developed with full knowledge of HighCom to counter a genocidal collection of alien races.
Well based on what I just read about the conventions, no. The NOVA bomb wouldn’t of violated it during the human-covenant war since:
- It is not anything to do with taking care of prisoners (and the covenant didn’t really ever surrender from what I recall) or ship wrecked enemy combatants. - Treatment of civilians isn’t a problem at the point in which a NOVA is needed. Either they will all have been evacuated or killed by the covenant or not there at all because its being detonated in open space. - It could cause a moral problem on a populated colony under attack where the civilians can’t be evacuated any longer and ,one could argue, are 100% certain to be killed by the covenant and so use of the bomb wouldn’t be killing the civies as they are already dead. But then theres the counter argument where it would become the humans killing fellow humans if the bomb was used in this case.
And if its use did break the Geneva convention or whatever modern version the UNSC uses, I’m sure they could worm their way around technicalities to allow NOVA’s use like they did in World War 1, like arguing that it doesn’t extend to aliens or that the enemy had technically already broken it.
No.The Geneva Convention does not apply for aliens.I mean the covenant also pretty trigger happy with WMDs,so why shouldnt the UNSC also use them?
Would Operation BanderSnatch have violated the Geneva convention is the real question
Bro, in the books they literally use them around three times casually, like “Oh, cool cruiser you got there. Would be a shame if it was destroyed,” Lol

Three times? Glyke, Xytan’s fleet, but when was the third time? (Not saying you’re wrong, just curious)

When the U.N.S.C bombed a human planet into submission

No in silent storm. They used them on picket ships, cruisers, the damn supply station( nine times)

No they do not. The use HAVOK and “Octa” nukes. A single nova would have wiped out that entire planet not to mention Nova’s were only nearing the end of development just before the invasion if reach.

Oh right, not had a chance to read that yet.

Oh, K. Still, they kinda use nukes of any kind casually, at least in Mid-War. IDK about Post-war
