Would teams Race work?

I have an idea for a Race spin-off. 2 man teams armed with plasma pistols and plasma grenades. One guy drives, the other rides and shoots. I think it would add more of a Mario Cart feel and reward for wider skill mastery and teamwork. I do see it having the potential to snowball, or hijacking another team’s ride. Thoughts?

I had this idea back in Halo 3. It worked pretty good in customs back then. Never thought to try to update it for Halo 4.

Everyone would still ruin it by standing still so no.

I’d love to play this, but I doubt it will become a reality in Halo 4. A shame, too, because I think this is a great opportunity for Halo to cannibalize some market share from another game franchise.

Two caveats: you’d have to keep everyone spawning into their seats, and you’d need to give incentive to the driver, otherwise I can see some unsportsmanlike people just refuse to be a team player.

Have it like multi team (2 man teams).

So help me out here as I am working on a race game involving 2 man teams. With that setting do you spawn or have the opportunity to spawn on your teammate in the vehicle? I’m not experienced with custom games.

I think that the desire to win is a pretty strong motivator, but trolls are gonna troll. I don’t see that as a reason to punish the other 95%. As to spawning in their seats, I took that as sort of a given.

Well, I was thinking 8 people, 4 teams of 2. At end of race the total scores add up together?

This would be super cool on a figure 8-type track, so you can nail people going in the opposite direction. Someone should make. Someone with mad Forge skills. I.e. NOT ME.

If the tools are there.

The official Race gametype had its Teams option locked to “DISABLED” when I downloaded and checked it. People could Forge racetracks for the OP’s suggestion, but it would be impossible to actually test it out.

So here’s how I envision my race game working:

It’s a Dominion gametype. There are “bases” along the course. Capturing and fortifying a base spawns turrets and shields at key points on the course. There’s a fifth “base” that puts up shields throughout the course that make it more difficult for the teams that don’t own that base.

Capturing takes one second, fortifying takes another second. Vehicles are indestructible, for now. I’m still working out the details, but so far, so good.

Unless something changes with Race, Dominion seems to be the way to go with this.

Don’t forget that you must press and hold a button in order to initiate a Dominion capture, and that you can’t configure the boundary for this action (e.g. allowing players to start a capture from afar).

If your idea won’t be affected by players having to stop and leave their vehicle, though, then go for it; it sounds like the kind of thing that could be pretty interesting.

Well, it’s a team thing so only one player would have to exit the vehicle for the capture, which could lead to some interesting tactics such as having one teammate capture a base while the driver goes after the next one. Since winning involves holding the most bases the longest and the more bases you hold makes the course more difficult for the other teams, things could get kinda hectic. The course covers all three islands so the bases are pretty far apart so hanging around one base should be counter-productive.

Open play testing will begin Friday.

So Rocket Race with PP instead of Rockets? Sounds good to me.

This may seem far-fetched but I’m thinking Multi-team, Oddball, or KOTH might work. Although I’m not too sure that options would allow this… I guess we must wait until the 23/24!

Hope that somebody is here seeing this.

Wasn’t the original Halo 3 Rocket Race a KOTH game?

if it’s even still possible, check my halo 3 file share, my friend drylok and i made a really fun gametype that we have played hundreds of times. pretty much everyone seems to like it. we called it blood rally. it works like this:
ideally, up to 4 teams of two (you would be surprised at how well this game works with crazy arrangements of teams too, like 2 teams of 3 a team of 1 and a team of 5 for instance…) race to random checkpoints spread around the map earning 3 points a piece. meanwhile, they try to get kills worth a point a piece. first team to reach 50 wins the round. there are two rounds. if playing the standard way with teams of two, one person on each team will be the VIP for the entire round (and the other will be the VIP for the next round) the VIP always spawns with a plasma pistol and a sword (and let me say, drive-by sword kills are probably the best thing that everyone missed in halo… there dont seem to be any other games that have passengers with swords, but yeah, it works beautifully), the non-VIP spawns with a brute shot and a needler. EVERYONE has regenerating grenades, so that amounts to pretty much infinite grenades… so that’s basically it. sometimes, you will spawn and all the mongeese have been taken, but fear not, you have either a plasma pistol, or a brute shot. you can totally earn a mongoose with ease. send me an xboxlive message if the fileshare isn’t working.
