I was thinking Arena should go and HCS should be its replacement. We have Slayer with classic settings already and I would like to see the populations consolidate a bit. It would free up a slot for something like Snipers. I would maybe at least change the settings of Arena to be only objective gametypes at least just to avoid repeating the same exact variants in different playlists. Arena and Slayer have a bit of overlap it seems.
Would this harm anyone’s experience with the game?
Replacing the Team Arena playlist with a Team Objective playlist is something I’ve been clamoring for; specifically, with the introduction of the HCS playlist. Check out this playlist breakdown to get a better idea of what I’d like to see or this one as it might be an easier change for 343i in Halo 5.
I’d cut the HCS playlist. Why do we have 1% of the player base dictating how the game should work and getting a dedicated playlist out of it? It’s the MLG tail wagging the Halo dog all over again.

I have to admit, I share this (apparently unpopular) viewpoint. I’m really not a fan of how competitive Halo 5 feels now. I’m not really a fan of HCS: don’t get me wrong - I admire how good the pros are, and I can see why people find that playstyle appealing but I wish that 343 would stop trying to make the whole Arena feel like the HCS. Halo has always had a vastly more casual feel imo, and I would like them to keep HCS to one specific playlist.
I feel like Arena should be replaced with HCS. I don’t understand why there needs to be a HCS playlist and an arena playlist when 343 is trying to push Halo 5 E-Sports. Arena playlist offers nothing of value except the old competitive format that was hated by the competitive community. They should just call it Team Objective and make the HCS playlist the new arena playlist.

I feel like the opposite is true. The new radar is in no other playlists other than HCS. If the game is being dictated by people who like competitive settings, why isn’t it in Doubles or FFA? It really should be considering all the other gametypes that are made with the casual playerbase in mind. And by making Arena into an objective playlist with classic settings the casual community is used to is making yet another concession to the casual community at the expense of the competitive community. (I’m not asking for comp settings in the hypothetical OBJ playlist)

I respect your opinions. I did ask for them after all, but I don’t follow this logic. I’m asking for HCS to be confined to one playlist. That’s it, just one playlist. I’m asking for the traditional settings to have TWO playlists. One all Slayer; One all OBJ. And yet the discussion is about how HCS is taking over? Breakout, Slayer, Dubs, FFA, Warzone, BTB and all the other social playlists get casual settings, but its the competitive community that gets everything?
In my own view even Dubs and FFA should be competitive settings as well. In fact the new radar should be the new Halo radar in general, I bet it wouldn’t even make a difference to casual players (that’s kind of what makes them casual). But I’m sure that would be too controversial of a move to push on the forums.

I don’t begrudge anyone a place to experience the game as they want to experience it - and you are definitely right about the fact that one single playlist doesn’t seem like all that much to ask for. I guess it was the original premise that “something must be cut in order to make room for something else” which makes it feel subjectively as if we’re all being asked to sacrifice at the altar of competition whether we’re competitive or not.

I love FFA, but it’s almost unplayable once you get used to HCS settings; they should be in the majority of ranked playlists in my opinion. After all, the whole point of ranked playlists is to cater to competitive players. If people are looking for a casual Halo then that’s what Social is for. As for your original post, it’s surprising that Team Arena even still has Slayer gametypes in it, especially since Proving Grounds/HCS has been out for as long as it has.
