A thought I had today was (as i don’t know the lore, hence the questions) that chief may have cause the damage to his own helmet ensuring that the UNSC can not track him that way or contact him etc. Perhaps if he is withing a certain range they’ll be able to contact and triangulate him but with his helmet out of order mean he’s can get on with what he wants to do.
Anyone clear me up if its not in the canon about tracking spartans through the COMS in the suit and stuff :)!
As far as i know he had a fight with Didact and the didact punched him in the helmet and it cracked his visor… as far as i know…

That was just the cover of the Escalation comic, and then in the comic the didact did indeed crack and actually shatter his visor. But by the time the three part comic had ended chief left with blue team with a brand new replaced visor, even the dents in his chest piece armour were gone by the end. So I’m thinking he does it later after he leaves to avoid the unsc even further

You should definitely read them, they offer plenty of info into chiefs doings after halo 4 :).
As I have understood, Didact crashed it in Halo Escalation…but who knows haha
