would love to know why ppl are so averse to mics

seriously, what gives? how do people expect to win games in a team based game trying to be a one man show and not communicating?

People have had bad experiences with anonymous gamers on the internet. So no wonder that nobody uses microphones on Halo 5. I do feel that it should be a requirement for at least Breakout, as that is supposed to be the MLG playground, but nevertheless, everybody hates each other on the internet. Also, party chat.

Kinect mics, Mouth Breathers (seriously apparently 70% of Xbox live is now populated by neanderthals or something) Foreigners and generally just stupid sounding people are why I don’t use my mic allot of the time.

Sometimes I plug my mic in and hear people on my warzone team whip out these gems: “Hey how do I use the BR?” or, “Hey how do I spawn at not the homebase?”

It’s at this point that I re-unplug the mic. lol

I don’t use my mic often because I am playing at night while my wife and kids are sleeping and don’t want to make noises.

i stopped using a mic after halo 3, i remember the days when everyone in the lobby would have mics in. now i’m older and i just wanna kick back and play some halo and not take life so seriously. Also the same as the guy above me said, everyone in my house is asleep and i rather not wake anyone up.

You are not the rule. You are the exception.
Most gamers either have no interest in talking, or every word out of their mouths is an insult or annoying.

Pro-Tip: When playing with people who don’t talk, watch their backs. Stay with them. Don’t separate unless an obvious flanking opportunity presents itself. There are almost no scenarios where 1 player can take on 2.

well, im not a native english speaker, so i am kind of unsecure.
this, and i generally prefer to focus on gaming.
and of course cursing in my native language,
which also would just annoy every not-polish teammate, lol

I win by paying attention to the map and my surroundings and not having a negative impact on my team. I don’t use my mic with randos because I don’t want to talk to randos.

Because whenever I forget to make a party (since this game doesnt have a mute all in the audio options unlike prior games. And the lobby one doesnt work half the time) I deal with young racial bigots who just dump out homophobic slanders.

Want proper team work? Join a game with friends

This. Lots of people probably remember the days of H2 and H3 matchmaking where everyone had a mic, yet all people did was trash talk, scream, swear, yell racial profanities, etc. I think this ended up turning a lot of people off to using Mics with game chat. Personally i try to just team with friends and use party chat.

Everyone wants to know why halo feels different.

get your mics on and you’ll be part of fixing the thing missing.

Thank you  … I am feeling the same way! But slowly starting to use it more and more they seriously do not mind a little accent at least you make the call out and listen to them

“Timmy stop playing vidya games and come eat dinner.”
random guy playing rap
static
“hola.” “hola” " tu habla espanol?" “NO”
“Hello, can anyone hear me? Hello?” “Yeh, i hear you we all do. I got my mic out just to tell you to *I would be deeply appreciative if you would refrain from speaking…”

Unless i know you or we’re in the party together. I don’t want to hear it. I only play at night so me yelling “Teammate wth?! Why did you blow me up with the rockets!?” isnt something im going to do.

*word filtered it to that, who knew…

I don’t care enough to try to rally my team by myself. Sorry.

Step 1. Get TARDIS, go to 2008
Step 2. Play Halo 3 multiplayer
Step 3. Return with deep understanding and new appreciation for your mother, your sexuality, race, class, creed, and sister too.

But it does have a mute all… Go to the score board and press “x” I believe. It tells you at the bottom lol.

I couldn’t tell you why most other people don’t use mics, as I don’t speak for them. I can however tell you why I don’t use a mic when playing Halo or any multiplayer game currently. Simple answer: I don’t have one.

To bring another angle of view on this topic, I have to say, as a non-native English speaker, that although I can discuss with ease in English, I’m not really encline to do it when I’m playing a game because… laziness.

  • Sometimes fellow gamers are very unfriendly, not going to lie. my 1st round of slayer for 5 on day 1 I was met with the biggest tool ever. give a bit of a break, I didn’t get to experience the beta so this control scheme is taking a little while to get use to. - I don’t wish to listen to a foreign language (it hurts my brain) and I apologise for saying that but it does give me a headache. IDK why I am being put into these matches frequently but it’s just got to the point I just mute everybody now - I listen to music. Tell me, do yo really want to hear the barney and friends song playing as I bring you to your virtual demise? sound humiliating doesn’t it? how about we try to avoid that awkward situation, hrm? XD - lastly, I am talking to other friends at times while in party chat. I don’t care if you communicate, just watch my six and I’ll watch yours, no word exchange needed.

Why I generally don’t use my mic:

  1. People playing music
  2. Rage monsters
  3. People who don’t speak in their mic, but breathe right into it.

I’ll use it when:

  1. I hear more than one person communicating (using callouts)
  2. Or to make some snarky comment to annoy rage monsters

Also just in case there’s someone who doesn’t know, the microphone on the Kinect is on by default. If you don’t use it, turn it off in the settings.
