I know there is a lot of flaming over this new ranking system. It seems as though most people would rather have the old Halo 2/3 ranking system back, including myself. If 343 were to decide to switch back, how easy do you guys think it would be for 343 to make the conversion?

I’m asking how easy would it be for 343 to make the conversion, not myself. Learn to read.
People think that coding is just, snapping your fingers and it’s done. Things are not that easy you know, same with map design, people expect 10 maps every week when it takes them a month to create 1-2 maps…
OT: I personally like the current system, kind of league of legends style, of course there are some flaws (misplaced ranks, playing vs higher/lower ranks) but they said in the community update that when the seasons start, they will have a better working ranking system, which i am stoked about.

This. I’m a self proclaimed amateur coder, and some of the basic stuff I try to do is pretty tricky. I couldn’t imagine creating a ranking system for Halo.
The current system is pretty cool, I just like the old school system more. Maybe it’s nostalgia? Probably. I feel like it’s tough trying to rank up in the new system. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t your rank dependent on wins? I feel like you have to find yourself a permanent team to get anywhere. I’m more of a solo player when it come to queuing for matchmaking so this is kind of a downfall for me.

Actually they have been promising a better working ranking system since Halo 4. Why is it taking so long? It is frustrating and unfortunate.
I think we have to accept the system we have whether we like it or not. I don’t think they will ever go back to the H2/3 system.
personally i don’t care what the system is as long as it works.
do the 10 placement matches work? I gotta believe they do on paper but in practice?..
My main concern and maybe I just need it explained to me by an expert (from 343 not a teenage interment professor)is this: if I’m doing my placement matches the game doesn’t know how good I am. If it matches me against other players who are still doing placement games then how can the game rate my performance? Maybe I just lost to a soon to be champion, maybe I beat a 9 yr old who’s never played halo before tonight. So how does it know how impressive or pathetic my wins and losses are?
It it also drives me crazy when I have some kid on my team getting owned and turns out he’s still placing. Thanks halo. Now I’m losing CSR as a community service.
My experience with past halo games has been that it takes quite a while for everything to settle down and the ranks to work. For now as long as I’m with friends I win more than I lose and have fun.

What do I do if my balls have already dropped?
The placement of current system is broken. An average player could get to play garbage players 10 times in a row in theory and go directly to onyx. Then another average player gets to go against good players half of his games and only gets gold or silver. In theory - average player #2 can catch average player #1 if he wins enough - but since he’s average - he will likely never get onyx like player #1. He could though over the long run - considering every loss cancels out a win…even at 60% winning (well above the average)…it would take roughly 90-100 games to go from silver 1 to gold 1 (average of 3 wins between gold 1 and gold 2, gold 2 and gold 3, varies based on opponents ranks - means i need 18 more wins than losses to go from silver 1 to gold 1). Player #1 proceeds to lose 60% of his games and finishes in onyx at 1500 csr because he doesn’t belong that high to begin with.
TLDR: 10 placement matches isn’t enough to put someone as high as Onyx. Should probably only be placed into gold at highest - then earn it from there.

Well im sure it would be big change under the hood in the code - more than what 343 would want to pay to “support” a finished a game. You have to remember - at this point 95% of the dev team is not on halo 5 anymore (probably more like 99% - probably 1 guy making forge dlc for us and 1 guy working 10 hours a week monitoring literal technical issues like in game bugs). Little chance such a change would happen.
