I’ve invested close to 200 overall hours into Halo 5 and believe the gameplay is excellent despite many missed opportunities and potential for improvements. Rather than see 343 go to work on Halo 6 after the final free updates are out in the summer, I’d like to see a similar approach that Bungie took with their Taken King launch. Taken King re-invigorated the Destiny community, reviewed much higher than the original release, got a lot of people to buy the game again, and got a lot of people to try the game for the first time. Essentially it ended up fulfilling the potential of the game.
While I’m not a Destiny fan, I can appreciate the positive impact the update had on the franchise for it’s community.
Halo 5 has excellent gameplay and performance. Even as someone who defends this game as a great value, to me it seems obvious that a lot hit the cutting room floor or was rushed to make the release date. It would explain why the visuals during the campaign appear inconsistent (with some levels looking amazing while others looked like a mid generation 360 game). It’s explains why the story seems rushed. Why modes were missing. Why Forge came out two months after release. Etc., etc.
- In 2016, Crackdown is supposed to prove that a game can utilize the power of the cloud. Why shouldn’t Halo 5 follow suit with a cloud enhanced Firefight mode? REQ system would enhance a mode like that. - Re-release Warzone. Utilize the cloud by having more NPCs. - Re-release BTB with package of developer made maps. - Have story elements be unlockables. There are just too many gaps in the campaign. Fill those gaps by making story elements unlockable in REQ packs. Do you think a re-release with a mega DLC update makes sense? What content would you like to see if that happened?
(I assume things like Infection, Forge playlists, additional game modes will be out before then. This topic is in relation to more substantial content updates.)
