I am not a fan of enhanced mobility in Halo, and would prefer if the franchise went back to its roots in terms of gameplay, but I know that would isolate many fans of Halo 5. I don’t see 343 going back to classic gameplay in Halo 6, and I don’t think simply adding a classic playlist in a game designed around enhanced mobility is the right choice (Halo 3 anniversary playlist in Halo 5 was still a blast though).
Let’s move on to the question.
In a game that includes Spartans with enhanced mobility, would allowing for a different playable type that doesn’t have enhanced mobility, like Brutes, be enough to satisfy classic Halo fans??
Their base movement speed would be increased, and perhaps they could dodge a bit or charge without a weapon when shields are down, but regardless, the player should really be able to shoot, throw grenades, and melee at all times. There could be several Brute(or whatever…) exclusive playlists for players that want to play classic Halo, and there could also be some Brute(…) vs Spartan playlists. I know a unified play-style is ideal, but this would at least allow all Halo fans to have some outlet in one game that doesn’t exclude one group on a massive scale. Plus, whichever play-style remains more popular over time might help shape the future of the franchise. I want this franchise to thrive.
***I initially posted this about playable elites, but someone found the core argument–which has nothing to do with the specific player-model (elite, brute, etc…)-- to be more fit in the redundant elite mega-thread, so it was locked.
