Would anyone use DMR if it's not overpowered?

Ok, this may be another “DMR is overpowered” thread but in little different way.
Most people use DMR simply because they don’t like to lose. But is there someone who actually likes this weapon? Who would choose it over other precission rifles even if was balanced?

Myself, I kind of miss Reach’s DMR with huge bloom and probability tactics involved in every fight. Other than that DMR is just the most boring weapon I could ever imagined: one trigger pull > one shot > one hit > repeat x 5. I would never touch Halo 4’s DMR with more interesting weapons around, but because I don’t like to have disadvantage, I’m forced to use it on big maps.

They can try to “balance” it all they want. The weapons overall idea and design makes it the all go-to weapon.
And bloom doesn’t help anything, it’s just random.

Yes i would use it as with all weapons right now i like the BR most but also the lightrifle on large maps if i can get away with it, depending on if i either have host or at least a decent connection to the host because then the lightrifle is a beast and kicks the yoink out of DMR users :).

I’ll still use it, as I’ve never had a problem with the bullet magnetism or ROF, even when it’s me getting hit by it.
It’s long range, so I’ll continue to use it.

Leave Halo 4’s weapons AS IS. The only thing which should be changing is our combat tactics, and not the weapons themselves.

DMR was design by Bungie and there was a reason why they kept bloom despite some people’s hatred. It wasn’t all go-to weapon, but weapon that was based on probability tactics. It’s like hi-level gambling where player must calculate his probability of winning (hitting the target) by including many different factors (range, aiming skills, opponent’s moving, environment etc) and adjust his rate of fire from close range bullet spam to slow paced headshots.

Self-called “pros” wanted it to be pure skill weapon (like Sniper Rifle, but more useful in close range), but originally DMR wasn’t that kind of weapon. Worse, because of this “anti-bloom lobby” DMR is not only overpowered, but boring as hell too.

Halo 4 is no Reach. There is not only DMR, but 3 other precission rifles as well. If someone hates bloom, he can simply choose other weapon. IMO when 343i decided to include DMR in Halo 4, they should leave it’s most basic gameplay mechanics as well.

This I can agree with, sadly.

But at least ‘balancing’ it would make it a lot better balanced with the other weapons, even if it still remains flawed.

Personally I don’t believe long range weapons should exist in loadouts. Medium ranged weapons promote map movement and don’t punish people from moving around the map freely.

Gambling isn’t a skill. People relied too heavily on Bloom to win their battles in Reach. Pacing your shots left you at a risk of losing at higher rates. And distance and timing doesn’t mean anything if the BM is extremely high (as it’s present in both Reach and 4). The DMR is simply an overpowered weapon, bloom or not. Changing it will just make it overpowered in different ways.
The game would have just been better off without it.

Of course gambling isn’t skill. But you still need right tactics if you want to win in gambling - that’s why some people earn their money in gambling, and some loses everything, and that’s why some people have quite impressive K/D ratio with Reach’s default DMR, while other hates this weapon with passion. All-in-all, it’s far beyond “let’s spam with bullets, some of them will hit”.

When I played Reach lately I was surprised how many current DMR’s problems (in both close range and long range) were nonexistant. At the same time DMR was much more interesting to use. If that DMR was in Halo 4, noone would said it’s overpowered. Most people would just use BR or Carbine or Light Rifle.

Look out guys, the guy who goes negative every game has some great tips on how to play.

I don’t even get why it’s in H4…I thought that the only reason it was in Reach was because that was pre-BR. Seems like they split the UNSC rifle into two unnecessarily…Why would the UNSC reincorporate an old model and then change their standard to be less powerful?? Makes little sense canonically.

Amen, amen, hallelujah, ghesundheit!

However, some tweaks can be a good thing if done in a rational and not groundbreaking way.

How many times must it be pointed out…

Well let’s begin with the fact your post is contradictory. If a change in tactics is all that’s needed, the weapon doesn’t need to be changed.

But that’s not all that’s needed.

Changing tactics can apply to any weapon first of all, not just the DMR. But if I use those same tactics with a superior weapon, I will perform better than someone who uses the same tactics with an inferior weapon.

It’s common sense.

The DMR is also proven to be better.

I spam this link for probably the hundredth time now.

The DMR was always my weapon of choice in Reach. When I started playing 4 I found it harder to get use to, due to the removal of bloom so I switched to AR. However I always found there was a 50/50 chance of beating someone with an AR, considering there isn’t much skill acquired so I switched back to the DMR. I’m use to it now and while I agree, it isn’t the most exciting weapon to use, I like to use it because 80% of the time I can beat someone else using it.
