Say 343i removed the AR completely. Would anyone honestly miss it?
H2 didn’t have the AR, and I thought it was one of the best Halos in the series. Thoughts?

nah its the noob weapon use a BR or something like that.
A large portion of the fan base yes, but if you are saying just a different version of the assault rifle, I would prefer some sort of LMG similar to the one in Reach Concept Art.

also thats why i liked odst and halo 2 one of my favorite guns the smg and the pistol were the stars.
I would, i like to use it

Pure example of Competitive IGNORANCE!
Really? You’re implying that the quality of Halo is based on whether the AR exists or not?
Did you know that a lot of people complained that it wasn’t in Halo 2 and they made sure to bring it back for Halo 3? Not only that, but one of the main inspirations for Halo was the Aliens movie and the AR is based on the Pulse Rifle from that movie.
Really, it seems like people only hate it because they’re under the impression it’s a “newb” weapon. Will probably even think that if the AR was an automatic with 100 size clips, sniper precision that fire hitscan rockets.

Sorry, I wasn’t trying to offend anyone, just wanted to ask a question. I mean, I wouldn’t miss the AR in multiplayer if it were replaced with something better.

Yes good idea replace it with something better and make Br starts in all.

Which AR? I would miss the Halo 1 and Halo 3 ARs.
And this post implies that you though Halo 2 was great because it didn’t have an Assault Rifle. And if they decide to not give us the AR, I dont think I could stand not having the BR either. Reach had neither, and those were meant to be part of that sect of common and useful weapons.
Its a very good weapon for rushing and approaching enemies at short to mid ranges, and has decent strength. Its particularly volatile in Halo 3 with its great accuracy.

Anyone who thinks all BR starts should replace AR Starts, and for that matter replace the AR Completely, is a complete and utter Nutter!
Having all Med-Long Range weapons as starts reduces the Need for Shotguns and makes pistols and power weapons useless. This is what ruined a few of my favorite Gamemodes on Reach and 3.

The AR is fine the way it is, it’s not supposed to dominate any one range. It will most likely be replaced (as with all weapons) as Chief is landing on a Forerunner planet. So chances are high he’ll be using Forerunner weapons.
I would miss it.
If Reach’s AR were to receive a very slight damage buff along with a reduction in aim assist, it would then be a perfect example of what the “generic” bullet weapons should be like: something that is useful in many scenarios, but not nearly all of them. In fact, if the BR were to be replaced with something more AR-like – say, a fairly-powerful scoped precision weapon with hitscan, no bloom, no spread, but niched to mid-to-long range in the same way that the AR is niched to short-to-mid range – I think the game and even the series would be all the better for it.
Ah… Yes.
It’s probably one of the more iconic Halo weapons, and no offense but it was a mistake leaving it out of Halo 2 and that is why they brought it back for Halo 3 and Reach.
The only reason people get sick of the weapon is because it is underpowered and doesn’t operate nor sound like the Halo CE MA5B; which though inaccurate was a beast. And anyway the more weapon variety in Halo 4 the less people that will be displeased because it doesn’t have their favourite weapon in it.
Also at the end of Halo 3 chief left his AR beside the cryo chamber and the FoD would have an armoury full of ARs from Halo 3. And 343 said they want Halo 4 to feel like Halo CE and without the AR that will be a lot harder to accomplish. Also it’s less of a NooB weapon in Reach since it was actually semi useful this time around and if aimed correctly (inside the cross) could be used effectively at medium distance in controlled bursts. Obviously not everyone uses the AR effectively and thus call it a NooB weapon when they themselves wouldn’t be able to hit the back end of a donkey.
Peace out.
I missed the AR in Halo 2, so yes I would. Yeah, it’s always been pretty bad compared to some of the other weapons but I’d hate to see it go because it’s part of what makes Halo, well, Halo.
Taking out the AR would be like taking out the Warthog.
I would most definitely miss it.
The AR was here before the BR.
In other words. Bring it back.

Amen. Then again, they took out the BR and downgraded the AR. I would prefer if they just brought back the Halo 3 AR and BR.

SMG = AR clone, all except for the recoil, sound and skin.
> Would anyone honestly miss it?
Yes. I would.
Course if you remove the AR you still need a weapon for the CQC category. Then that new weapon becomes the new AR. Just like the SMG did in H2.
