Would Anyone Else Like A Custom Game Browser?

I think this would solve 343i’s problem of trying to keep playlists low to preserve reasonable que times, and the communities cries for more playlists.

If they just added a Custom Game Browser it seems like a decent solution to the problem. This would also help grow the community, as in Custom Games people are more likely to use mics and make friends; thus becoming more likely to continue playing. It’d also help grow the Forge community, as people could make their Forge creations and share them more easily with a wide range of players. Right now options are limited to a few forums/subreddits if you’re looking for people to invite to Custom Games.

So 343i wouldn’t need to add several new playlists, they’d be able to kill several birds with one stone…the Custom Game Browser!

Remember, custom games don’t reward RP, and they don’t count towards Commendations. So players will still be greatly encouraged to play in MM, especially if they’re farming for Achillies, or trying to rank up their SR rank, or trying to get RP. Everyone wants RP, so I doubt people will give up on Arena/WZ for custom games. This also helps 343i’s bottom line, since if players are in Custom Games all day, they’re more likely to buy REQ packs, because they’re not earning RP in game.

Halo CE PC

A good idea i think. I hope it happens.

I don’t understand why this wasn’t a feature since Halo 3. If we’re being honest Custom Games is also what made Halo big! That and Forge is what made people play that game way longer than they should’ve. Halo Reach and beyond should have had a Custom Games Browser (CGB) from the start.

Custom games are bad for REQ business. If we want them to implement a server browser for customs, then we should figure out how to incorporate microtransactions first.

A simple server browser shouldn’t be hard to add, maybe add a system where you get the option to rate a player’s game lobby as well

That would be an awesome idea; However, I can see 343i not wanting to do this to try and keep their playlists alive. If you could easily find some fun custom games, it could hurt the population on the official playlists. We will see how things go down in the future though. Maybe they could add this once they start full steam on Halo 6. Then they won’t have to worry too much about updating content.

Halo 5 should of had a lot of things right at the start but well you know its 343.

A custom game browser has been a desire for a long time. I think the first mention of it that I can recall dates back to H3. Bungie responded that they wouldn’t add it as it competes directly with matchmaking. If I had to guess, I bet 343i’s stance is much the same. I see their point; as it would dilute the MM population.

I think that in H5 with the RP model it won’t compete directly with MM. Most of us want RP when we play, and Custom Games don’t give out RP at all, they don’t give XP, and they don’t count towards Commendations. So in H5 I don’t think many people will live in Custom Games as much as they would if there was a dedicated playlist, because they’re going to want to get RP and Commendations as well. Most players would end up splitting their time between Custom Games and Arena/WZ, and I’d imagine, especially for those farming for Achillies, that they’d end up spending much more time in MM than in Custom Games.

This will mean that a Custom Game Browser will get some use, but won’t drag players in full time, the way that a social playlist would compete directly with Arena/Slayer.

A Custom Game Browser will also be able to get many niche communities at once, because people will host whatever game they choose to.

The thing is that Custom Games don’t reward RP, XP, or count towards Commendations. So players still have VERY strong motivation to play MM games. They’d only venture into the Custom Game Browser for fun.

Its a win/win!

How are Custom Games bad for business? If people are playing Custom Games all day, they’re not earning RP, so they’re more likely to buy REQ packs to unlock things.

That makes a lot of sense.

Why would anyone want to play Warzone though if people are constantly having lobbies up for custom games…

Because you don’t earn any RP, XP, or Commendations for Custom Games. If you want to unlock anything at all, or progress your SR you’re still going to want to play MM.

Or they could just do it the Dark Souls way…

Have players invade your match. Opening up any map in customs by yourself should be high invasion territory.

I’d love to have it… But sadly as someone said, if it interferes with the req cash flow, it won’t happen.

There’s a reason why Arena lacks so many playlists. They want us to play Warzone.

How would it interfere with REQ cash flow in a negative way though? You don’t get REQ points for Custom Games, so if anything people who spend a large time in Custom Games would be more likely to buy REQ packs because they wouldn’t be earning REQ points by playing.

On the flip side, if they wanted to earn REQ points by playing instead of paying, then they’d get back into MM. So there is literally no downside thanks to the REQ system in H5, as it actively encourages MM over Custom Games.
