Would 343 had survived in a pre-patching industry?

Simple question. Before Xbox Live, not counting PC, games worked at launch, and whatever glitches were in the game were stuck in the game.

Given 343’s track record, do you think the company would have survived very long had it existed in, say, Bungie’s prime era?

So are you trying to discuss something, or just trying to create the billionth 343 hate bandwagon thread?

Discussion. I’m honestly curious on what the community thinks. At least, THIS community. Which is much different from years ago.

And you realize this THIS community has a cesspool of hatred for 343 on the MCC forums…you aren’t going to get any discussion.

If you think this is hatred for a company, you were not around B.net during Halo 2, 3, or Reach’s releases. This is nothing. Which is why I think I’ll get some good debate from both sides.

You’re the one turning this into some hate topic. Either post constructively or leave.

What exactly IS there to post about? This thread makes no sense on a multitude of levels.

Had 343 been created before patching was possible, and it released games the way it does, would the company have survived the way it is now? Yes, and why you think so, or no, and why you think so. Agreeing and disagreeing with others. Civilly.

That’s a hard concept?

Bnet was the definition of cesspool in the Halo 2 and early Halo 3 days.
As for OP, yes I think they would survive. I don’t think developers work as hard to make sure their products are bug free because they can always just issue a patch now. If there was no such thing as patching a game then I suspect the quality of products we receive would be higher.

Nothing like this could’ve been made in the Pre patch era so I’d say yes.

Sure why not, activision made -Yoink- games (as in unplayable) sub 2000’s now look at them.

343 has yet to release a reasonably functional Halo game with all features intact, so I’d say no. They couldn’t.

I don’t think this game could exist in such a setting.

Yes, because they wouldn’t have released the game the way they did if patches weren’t an option.

Not true. Beyond a few mild glitches Halo 4 launched just fine. And so far Halo 5 has shown no signs of being different.

Considering they patched in the MP part of TMCC, i’d say they would have to release the game without MP, just the campaigns or ship it with 2 discs, like Halo 4 did.

Discussion over.

Back before the pre-patching days, 343 and Microsoft would have simply given them at least another year before launch. They would have just kept bumping the release date until the game was “finished”. So if it was supposed to be released in 2014, it would have been bumped a year to 2015. Or they would have had to release the game with no MP at all. As mentioned above my post.

If it had been released the way it was at launch back before pre patching days, no 343 would not have survived. Halo would have been taken over by a different developer. They are already going to have to perform a miracle to pull their reputation back from this MCC disaster. I still have no plans to buy H5 until TMCC is massively improved. That’s coming from a fan that has played for 10+ years. I refuse to support developers that release unfinished games. Clearly they are struggling with the games on the X1.

Hard to say bc games were not as advanced and more simplistic to make and test back in the day.

Considering that releasing broken games is the norm now, even among veteran studios, I imagine pre-patching days would force developers to work harder, so I’m sure 343 would just be another developer who would delay to get a game working. So yes, I think they would survive. If you look at them how they are now, then no, they would die as a company very quickly.

While this is very much true, the architecture of the X1 (and PS4 since its not just 343/MS with broken game launches) makes it similar too a PC. These major game developers should not have game breaking bugs in these current Gen games.
