I haven’t played since November really, but have heard updates from people about people still quitting games with no consequence, and ranks 4 matching vs ranks 40+. Has any of this been fixed, or worth playing yet? Or is this still $60 down the drain? I don’t want to hear “Just give it a shot, you can still play campaign,” etc. I’ve played the campaigns already, I just want H2C-HC and H2A multiplayer specifically.
Thanks for any input.
It works much better as far as party systems and finding games that’s for sure, still only one ranked playlist (5v5) and all the social playlists, and quitters have no consequence. It is fun if you have a full party but the competition is still very weak because of the low population. I would say if you want classic ranked Halo then you will most likely have to wait another month or so before the playlists are updated and the ranking system is fixed.
The multiplayer is working properly from what I’ve experienced so far and has been very fast to get me into matches with even teams. Still no ranks yet, so if you don’t mind that then by all means put it in your xbox and play some matchmaking. You can play it with your friends now since they’ve fixed the party system.
Yes ranks are not back yet, but it has been crazy fun being able to jump into games with little delay.
Working great it just needs ranks. You should definitely play again and convince all your friends to do so as well

Still no ranks or true skill matchmaking. But it seems quite a few other problems have been improved judging by the replies of the community. I haven’t played in about a month and a half. Been waiting for this CU and plan to check it out tonight.
Can we go into MM with full team parties yet?

Yeah, we got that. However, it’s a real mix at the moment. You can also join groups of people for the Halo 2 Anniversary multiplayer experience without the elongated matchmaking wait. You can still enjoy the maps and the game-types without 343i managing your experience. You just need people who care about your particular need for Halo 2A.
Thanks for all the feedback everyone. I may have to try playng again this weekend. I feel like the lack of ranking and skill matchups will still hinder my long-term fun, since it will probably be a beating in one direction most games, but it gives me a little more hope to see that they actually fixed some major problems.
In all honesty.
-
Ranking system is still not implemented, so you will still be ranked with other users out of your league in H2A playlists.
-
There is still no punishment for people who quit or betray you.
-
Once the game is finished and you back out from the carnage report, you WILL get separated from the group.
The game as a whole as reportedly been playing better for the most part, although some users insist it’s still broken.
Well I got a chance to play some this weekend. I noticed that it was better, but still not tolerable to play. The first few games I played were fine, one team was getting spanked. I remember some 50-15 games (in that area) where I was on both sides of the beating. A few flag games 5-0 or 5-1 (both sides again), 1 3v3 ball game where the other team had about 2 seconds of time.
Then I played with my friend in a party. We didn’t play a single game where someone didn’t quit. We even quit ourselves in a midship flag that ended up being us 2 vs 4, and they wouldn’t cap flags.
Definitely need some ranking systems like Halo 2 (I thought that’s what they said they were doing originally?). That would eventually weed out the quitters, because they wouldn’t have any rank once you outgrew that ranking.
So my thoughts…meh, it’s ok. Will I play more now? No, not until it’s fixed…it’s too frustrating as is, generally a waste of my time.

I also played quite a bit over the weekend after the CU. Your reply pretty much sums up the experience. It has improved but REALLY needs true skill ranked matchmaking for it to be as enjoyable as it was years ago. Especially like H2 or H3. Its getting better, but until working ranks are implemented, it can be a very unbalanced disaster resulting in many players quitting. Hopefully the next update will address true skill ranked matchmaking.
The game desperately need Trueskill ranking for two reasons:
- To make games competitive by forcing opposing teams to be similarly ranked
- By forcing players to be competitive and not simply quit the moment they don’t like how a game is going
Until then you just have to suffer the consequences of the terrible unbalanced matchmaking and the truly terrible attitude of the truly terrible players.
