Wort Wort Wort!

Do the Elites have their own language or don’t they? I never understood their logic or history. From time to time they would speak in “Wort” but I’m not entirely sure that counts. What is it 1 wort yes and 2 worts no? How many worts do I need to say “The Rumble Pit is my favourite pit”? How many worts does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

For about all of the Halo series you can hear the Elites or rather the entirety of the covenant (Aside from the Jackals) speaking English. You very very VERY rarely hear them speak their native tongue. It makes you wonder if they even HAD an original language to begin with? Did they even know what language was before they waged war with the human colonies?

Actually their was one part in Halo 2 where you could hear the prophet “singing” I guess and the covenant understood what he was saying so it makes you wonder… did the covenant speak in rhythm or music before they attack the humans?

Kind of thing of it I don’t actually think Bungie decided on an original language for any of the alien races. It was only until Halo 4 that an actual language for the elites was introduced in Spartan Ops but even then if I recall correctly the elites we see in Halo 4 are a different type of Sanghielli elite. So does one half of Sanghielli race speak in “worts” or something!? SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME!!!

The Sangheili aka the Elites do in-fact have their own Language but the Covenant do share a language although the Hunters refuse to talk to each other and the Drones simply cant speak it but can understand it. Source for that is the Halo Encyclopedia

The first Covenant to learn English were the Unggoy aka the Grunts because they were in charge of deciphering human transmissions and it perhaps spread through them. I would also like to say that in Halo 2; Bungie made them speak English, and in Halo 3 as well, so that it would be better to understand the Covenant during the missions and cutscenes.
