I generally don’t complain about maps in Halo unless they’re truly garbage (Here’s looking at you Isolation) but Riptide has to be the most trash map right now that isn’t a forge map. Asymmetrical maps are fine when they’re balanced right with enough pseudo power weapons to counter balance map control. Everything about this map seems so wrong for the sandbox in Halo 5. Sure it has a strong focus on flanking. But it’s not a versatile map for different plays. Halo 5 generally feels smooth when moving in and out of cover, Riptide seems clunky and out of place in the rotation. With cover constantly hindering strafing and escapes.
“You just need to get good!”
“Be more environmentally aware!”
“Stop playing with randoms”
Maybe it’s because it’s a fresh map it might just feel that way. But riptide is not a smooth flowing map. It’s slow and clunky to play on, Anyone else have thoughts on this blunder map?
It’s honestly one of my favourite maps. Once you learn some of the skill jumps it flows really well. Proximitti has a really good video on the map you could check out if you haven’t yet.
It’s my favorite map in the game after Empire and Coliseum. Just need to give it some more time. Grab the H2 BR and Storm rifle as well. Deadly loadout.

Uh what? Sword dominates the map because there isn’t a counter for it, since they took the shotgun off the map. The issue with the shotgun was it was right next to cloak. What they should have done is remove cloak and leave the shotgun. Doesn’t make any sense, but oh well. The map plays even worse than before. I would rather play Riptide 100 times in a row and die from the Storm Rifle on Regret 100 times in a row then play on Overgrowth once.

My problem with regret is that it works for 3 and 2, but not when sprint is a primary mechanic in the Halo 5 sandbox. Sword can be easily countered by the plethora of grenades, Rail gun and boltshot. Although the grenade spam in the tight spaces makes Overgrowth a tedious experience.
I love Riptide. I think its a great map. It has a combination of areas that encourage close quarters combat as well as an area for ranged combat. Its mostly a matter of learning the map and knowing where you should engage enemies based on your strengths and weaknesses.

Have you played Backwash, Isolation, every Halo 4 map (except Haven), and Orion? Regret is one of the better maps for H5. Rig, Fathom, Overgrowth, Orion, Pegasus, are by far much worse than Regret (in my opinion).

Ummm…Truth is the actual remake from Midship and Heretic. Regret is an remixed map from them, that plays completely different compared to Truth and the others.
Sword is not easily countered if the sword wielder is a smart and good player. Onyx/Champion level matches are usually determined on who controls the sword, which is very silly since blue spawn has the spawn advantage for both cloak and sword.
My friends hate it but once I learned it I started playing very well on it. I have a couple choke points that I utilize so if I’m dominating, then I like the board :).
I guess I’m one of the few people with the OP…I very much dislike Riptide. I can never get into any kind of rhythm or flow on it, and I just groan every time it comes up. I doubt it’s going away (like Orion…which, by the way, was a good map), so oh well.
