Worst character?

Who is the worst character in halo?

Your mom.

I don’t know but Locke is up there. He’s just so bland. If they made Buck the other protagonist it would have been (IMO) a much better campaign.

Worst as in what?

Jameson Locke.

Extremely underdeveloped character who didn’t live up to the expectation of having an intense rivalry against Master Chief (it only lasted for a single cutscene). He’s basically just Cardboard-Cutout Soldier #4358436 who follows his orders like a good little boy.

His lack of character is magnified by the fact that you play as him for the majority of the campaign, and presumably you’ll have to play as him a lot in future campaigns as well.

The themes from Hunt the Truth would have been portrayed more as well. Buck is the only character in the whole campaign who questions the “hunt for Master Chief” when he says that “a lot of people will hate us for doing this.” He seems to like Chief more than the rest of Osiris, so making him lead a taskforce to hunt him down would create an element of tension and cognitive dissonance for him. He might begin to question the whole situation around him and have to find his own truth amidst the muddy waters.

Seeing how Buck would balance obeying orders with his assumed admiration for John would have been so much more interesting than whatever it is that Locke was doing.

I hated Miranda -Yoinking!- Keyes.

“Marines are requesting a rally point, where should they go?”
“…to WAR.”

I just wish the dude at the computer would have said something like “Hahaha okay funny joke but these people are gonna die unless you give me a straight answer.”

Honestly if Locke, he is such a one dimensional character, at least Tenaka and Vale have the external universe to give them backstory, Locke had an underwhelming film. He is the stereotypical soldier and honestly his voice makes me angry, I dont know why, it just does.

Dr. Halsey.

Palmer due to her unprofessionalism, but hopefully that has been resolved

Are we counting books? Because if so, it would be grey team. I really enjoyed the book overall, but grey team’s segment were a slog.

She also isn’t even versed in the game mechanics of Warzone…

“We can still take the enemy core!” Except that we have to own all three bases in order to do that, and since the enemy team has to have a huge point lead for this voice clip to be played that prospect is unlikely. Palmer is confirmed to be a n00b. :stuck_out_tongue:

Spartan Palmer, i just didn’t like her in Spartan ops or halo 5. Plus, she’s the person that goes “it’s not over yet, we can still destroy the enemy core” one does not simply win at that point. I also love and hate Spartan Locke, I liked Mike Colter as lock better then Ike Amadi.

Sarah Palmer due to her constant lack of respect for the scientists. Calling them “eggheads” isn’t a yoinking joke. I just makes you look like an uneducated fool.

I’m in the Spartan Locke camp. Even if they departed from the story we thought we would get, they still could have let him use some inflection in his voice. As a voice actor he doesn’t pull of cold, steely, strong-silent type well. It’s really just monotone and boring. On top of that, they only list facts about him in the game, nothing about motivation or emotion.
Maybe it’s the actor in part though. I can’t say Luke Cage likely put him in the running for an academy award. While the actors around him (particularly David Tennant) did just fine.

I resent that.

If we are dealing with games, probably Cortana. I would not have said this years ago because it wasn’t true. But what was a strong, sometimes snarky, and really human character is just some power hungry despot now. She was really at her best in Halo 4 and despite suffering rampancy still did her dampest to compete the mission and helped the Chief kick the Didact’s -Yoink- before saving Chief. She was valiant, resourceful, quick-thinking. Now? She is just an evil piece of crap. That could have been interesting, but it’s just made her one of the worst characters to me.

Never liked Rookie. There just was nothing for me to like.

May I make a slight defense on Locke’s behalf? I know he isn’t the most earth shattering character, but I’ve been used to Chiefs blandness for years, so Locke was a bit of fresh air. I liked his professionalism. Where others may have been blinded by Chief’s legacy, he put those feelings aside. I like that he isn’t essentially a fanboy. He had a plan to use the inhibitors to lock Chief’s armor, indicating he probably knew he could never beat Chief in a fight and went with a more practical approach. That’s intelligent. When he was on Meridian, he kept himself diplomatic rather than going gung-ho because he knew it’d be more helpful on a world surrounded by inserrectionists and their supporters. Ever notice how he never dwells on Slon being an AI very long and essentially keeps acting as if he were a person? That is some serious tact on his end. You’ve even got to give him props for even trying to take on Chief. He got rektd, but you couple that with his refusal to go down when trying to rescue Chief at the risk of blacking out shows he is a tenacious son of a gun. I see a lot to like about Locke that I don’t think too many people consider.

If I could like this a few dozen times, I would.

The Locke hate is nothing but bias + preconceived notions + other obvious factors I need not to mention. People have wanted to hate Locke since his introduction and just about every analysis of his character on these forums has shown a ridiculous lack of objectivity. As a character, he’s a breath of fresh air and his potential arc is easily the most fascinating out of everyone so far (if we finally DO decide to go the route of rebelling against ONI).

halo 5 just completely ruined cortana for me.
