Worries About Aiming

There was already a fairly large outcry about controller aiming during and after the first flight at the end of July. When 343 released their feedback post over a month later, I and many others were dismayed that 343 largely ignored the outcry, seeming to think that dead zone settings and sensitivity would solve everything. This time, there are WAY more people experiencing for the first time just how awful controller gameplay feels, but a big part of me is concerned that 343 will once again gloss over the issue. 343 please, this is far and away the biggest issue blocking Infinite from a successful launch and long term player base, please acknowledge this issue as soon as you can, it would put minds more at ease to know that you will at least be working on it.

Agreed. Aiming sucked for me during the first flight and there were people saying it was just me. Funny how it seems 90% of everyone is complaining this time. The aiming is the exact same as the first flight - crap. Must be because of the broader player base and not the top 10% fans of “343 can do no wrong”. Aim assist needs to be adjusted… if not, please at least add the option to exclude keyboard input players.

After fixing dead zone it’s all good again. I don’t get the problems after fine tuning the aiming?

I’ve tried that and it still feels off. It’s not like previous Halo’s. If anything, that’s like a bandaid with a hole in it.

I find the aiming to be extremely difficult. I feel like if this were not to be addressed then any new players would be quick turned off by it.

That’s my biggest fear. Me and my brother are by no means pro players, but we have always been able to hold our own in any shooter respectably well. But after a full day of playing, even my brother says he just can’t really imagine playing Infinite long term if it is always going to feel like such an uphill climb in every single gun fight. Hearing someone with a deep love of Halo say something like that makes me think that new players who aren’t as familiar will simply play a couple matches once and then never again, especially since the game is free and they didn’t waste a single cent by deciding to try it once.

The aim is terrible by default. Stumbled across a forum post that had their tweaked list of sensitivity/input settings. It helped a lot, but isn’t perfect. I’ve never played a halo game with this issue before.

Something feels way off, no clue what it is. Halo 5’s aiming system was terrible but I know for a fact I could hop on now and hit some nice perfects. Hop on infinite and only chance is on stationary targets.

The way I see it, anything beyond adjusting sensitivity for personal preference is just a band-aid fix on a greater issue. Not to mention the large number of casual players who won’t even think to check controller settings, and just assume they suck at the game or that the game isn’t fun and move on.

My friends and I have pretty much just resorted to sprint+slide+BXBing for kills given that it’s pretty much impossible to kill someone with the pistol unless you’re literally a god lol

I don’t remember having nearly as much a problem the first flight with aiming. To me, the Sidekick felt awesome in flight 1 – and in flight 2 I’m opting to not use it nearly as often. It felt like the aim assist was reduced (perhaps even more?) this time around. I hope it gets addressed as well, and at the very least I agree that matchmaking should allow users to match with others on the same platforms.

I completely agree. I instinctively put everything max, but that was way too jerky. I wouldn’t have had the patience to -Yoink- around with the settings. Glad someone else did. And it shouldn’t be that way.

I think to some extent, bots were just easier to shoot at than players, so people weren’t noticing how bad the pistol and commando feel in an actual pvp environment. I remember last flight doing well against bots, and then getting stomped against players because I just couldn’t hit them with the commando or pistol.

Agreed. The little amount of aim assist and bullet magnetism makes the pistol basically worthless. Combine that with the overpowered AR and you will find yourself accepting the mentality of if you can’t beat em, join em.
I do find the BR to be fine though. This still feels nice to me, but most other precision weapons I haven’t bothered using when you can start with a AR.
For years PC players have said that if you gave them a keyboard they would mop up in halo. Now it appears they needed to wait for infinite for that statement to be true.

Halo Reach’s bloom was easier to adjust too than Infinite’s default settings :joy:

How so? A band aid suggests a temporary solution. The fix is permanent since you set it once…like all sensitivity settings.

Honestly I have no issues with the aiming in controllers. I don’t know why or what but I honestly find it pretty darn good. If you asked me what I would change about it I would have no clue what to say.

Thank god other people feel this way too. Like someone else has said, I’m no pro, but I can consistently pick up an fps and get the hang of aiming well relatively quickly, but there is something fundamentally off about the aiming in Infinite. Maybe its that I find it hard to tell when I’m actually hitting my targets? I see shields light up sure, but the notation within the reticule for hitting a shot is tiny and lacks any contrast to the reticule itself. I honestly need more play time against other players to be able to pinpoint just where its off to me personally.

Shooting a teammate in the head with a pre-title update DMR was easier than Infinites aim.

A bandaid with a hole in it; hence, ineffective at best.
