Worried about the E3 campaign footage

I know, I’m late on an opinion. Obviously, the E3 campaign was very scripted and over the top, probably for demo purposely, I get it. Overall though, it didn’t appear much different from halo 4 MCC visually and the gameplay didn’t seem exciting either. It felt very forced and thrown together. I just felt it was an opportunity to show a next level halo campaign and it looked very, very safe even with squad mechanics.

Idk, for whatever reason I’m hoping they picked one of the most boring sections of the game to show off, even considering all the explosions, it ended up looking very Michael Bay like. I thought the halo 4 demo was much better at E3 and it wasn’t the greatest by any means, but at least it was somewhat exciting though with the discovery element of the Prometheans. Beyond that it wasn’t good either. The discovery of the guardians to me is just not exciting. By contrast, look at some of the other trailers like Horizon for example.

I think 343i is just bad at telling an interesting narrative, Some of the tools are in place, production value, voice acting, idk it just seems to fall apart from there. I hope I’m wrong because they have tackled one heck of a challenge with this squad chatter, it will have to be stellar to tell the story well. By that I mean the characters will need to be engaging.

It’s already been confirmed that the demo was built specifically for E3, and that it doesn’t reflect the way the game will actually play. It needed to be safe and secure or else they could risk something unexpected happening in front of a live audience, which isn’t good. It was serving to set up the story, characters, conflict and so on, and it certainly achieved that. 343i has proven themselves as exceptional storytellers in the past, and with the talent of Bioshock Infinite’s narrative lead, I expect Halo 5 will further raise the bar.

Your answer is in the OP… They rehearsed every single part of the mission that’s why it feels so forced. If you watch the sprint episode you’ll see a clip of them rehearsing.
They picked a linear mission because it’s a presentation.

I would say say it’s fair to judge campaign on a presentation like this. It’s never gonna look that clean and organized loll.

All the trouble they went through to hype the story, one can only hope they have the campaign to back it up.

For sure, I would have definitely like to see more of how it plays. It just felt really empty despite the set pieces. I’m still hopeful it will deliver.

It was lackluster, but it was just a demo. I’m sure the actual finished product will be great.

Give it time. 343 is can still tweak a lot before the final release date. I’m sure they will fix any complaints as we draw closer to launch.

Let’s hope so. Maybe Gamescon will have something.

You’re looking to much into it. It was a demo made for e3. The only concern I have is Chief. The co op focus for Locke is fine but Chief has always been a lone wolf and didn’t talk a whole lot. With a team communication is key and him talking a lot and seeing him have help will irritate me tbh. I’m sure gameplay will be great though.

Halo 4 graphics were already top notch so instead of upping graphics they used that power for 60fps, more bodies and things going on screen.

In the lore though, the Chief is absolutely not a lone wolf - up until the events of the games he always led a fireteam. Kelly, Fred, and Linda are his family, and bringing them in is the next big step up for his character development.
