Worried about Grifball

Just rereading the Weekly Updates looking for stuff, and realised that 343 basically told us that they were totally redesigning Grifball. I’m ok with thrusters and sprint if it’s properly balanced but this quote by Max Grossman has me very worried, it’s unlike any Grifball court you have ever seen before. I’m guessing that they are hoping to putting their “343 signature” on it from this quote: complete with thrusting Grif, Ground Pound kills, and ball throwing.

Ground Pound suggests elevated areas in the court, not remotely sure why this is needed, and ball throwing would completely change the character of the game. I think I can deal with thrusters and sprint, as long as it’s not overused and unbalanced.

Officially scared now, if history had shown anything it’s that these guys constantly tinker with what works until it doesn’t work anymore. (Just look at the UI from the beta and you’ll see what I mean.)

Hopefully they include classic grifball in the playlist as well.

And hopefully this -Yoink- isn’t ranked.

I’m curious to see what it’s like. Frankly, I don’t mind them working with the court and I’d love to see how the new abilities impact the game. The biggest problem is getting the mechanics of the hammer done right. In Halo 3, it worked. I can’t remember if it’s Reach or H4 I’m recalling, but the hammer was completely terrible and ruined Grifball.

ball throwing was in halo 4 and it worked really well soooooo ya

Amen. Hopefully it isn’t ranked and there is JIP, additionally I’d like the banhammer to be gone from it because a lot of people used to farm kills so quitting was often an issue in past games. Getting farmed for 10 or so minutes really sucked.

I don’t seem to remember that, though I played very little of Halo 4. I do remember Grifball Evolved from Reach and it was terrible. My buddy and I just left whenever it came up.

I am excited about it. New learning curve means everyone starts out with an even playing field. This generates new interest and keeps play fresh.

Halo 4’s later Grifball was just perfect. It had great maps, and ball throwing.

I hated H4 Grifball solely because of the round not ending after a score. I really didn’t enjoy the flow, and the camping for the ball spawn.

Is it coming to halo 5?

The ground pounds don’t necessarily mean elevated areas. Throwing your teammates or getting thrown by others swinging the hammer was common place.

Yes this but somehow 343 will screw it up.

yes, read the community update

I’m going to ask, because I’m not knowledgeable in Grifball, what is wrong with ball throwing? I do mind elevated courts, because it wouldn’t really work, in my opinion, but I don’t quite understand ball throwing.

nothing really, people just dont like that one can throw the ball across court even though its easy to counter and retrieve when an enemy team does a ball throw. The problem halo 4 had was that the hammer was not quite right. Its hit registering was at time chaotic and didnt pack as much of a punch as halo 3. Hopefully this hammer is a power house as it should be

Woot hammer time

iy would be fun if they included classic griffbal whitout spartan abilitis

Everything changes and evolves…just have to hope the new Grifball will evolve for the better. Actually, the only thing I have trepidation about is the ground pound being included.

It sounds like a lot of testing is being done, so hopefully it will all flow nicely. But if it doesn’t, 343 seems to be dedicated to tweak it until it does.

So basically, Grifball would turn into football with hammers, because someone sprints to the other side of the court, and the QB throws the bomb to that guy, and then touch down. Right???

Yeah thats my Grif with this lol. I admit I’m an old purist, I loved the strategy of waiting for your moment, winding your way through the enemy, and picking your chance to score the goal. I always took my time with the ball, but once I had it I almost always scored.
