Do you have enough space on your disk drive? As it currently stands, Halo 5 is 106 GB in size.
How much open space do you have? If it’s barely enough space, it may be split between your internal and external hard drives. The whole download needs to be on the same hard drive and cannot be split up as far as I know.

i have around 500gb for external and internal but i know most of it is on external. there is enough on internal as well i think

yes i have enough on internal and external hard drive
I have herd of problems with the install on an external drive. So you can try to install it on your internal drive, and see if that works.

i install it and it basically pauses and says installation stopped but i click resume and it says instalation stopped again

yes i have tried that but when i install it goes straight to external as it is plugged in but i can unplug it and install it then
