Hey all,
Haven’t broken down and bought the new Halo 4 yet, but I am wondering about the new Forge. I’ve taken a look at the new features and indeed it does entice and inspire me to create new maps, but what bothered me about Reach and Forge World was how difficult it was to get your maps even played on. Exposure was difficult, there was no kind of matchmaking mechanic (unless you were with friends…or maybe I missed something?), and with that, made it harder to tune maps to the “communities” taste or based on community reviews.
I’ve seen some posts after searching on Google that there may be a sort of playlist for forge maps, but if this is only limited to hand selected maps by a board or community, I still don’t feel that’s enough. Sure it weens out the crap, but it builds no room for improvement on that map that just needs a little polish to become gold; It just never gets pushed, and forgers ultimately don’t know how they did. Meanwhile, the inspired forger looses his drive and simply… stops.
Rather than just having a select list of approved forge maps, why not have that, but also have a playlist where the vote-able maps are from the participating users? This gives a higher likelihood of having the “unknown hit” in rotation. Once the match is over, the players can then vote on the success or fail of the map increasing it’s rotation around the forge community and possibly getting elected as an official forge map of some sort, or pushed through to general matchmaking.
I want to create, but I don’t want to JUST create for me and the limited people/“friends” I actually match make with. I don’t have that many, not enough to DRAG over to forge, and not enough that will stay…frankly I don’t know anyone who does (lol).
If there will be a higher visibility to forge maps this time around in some shape or fashion, I’m willing to take the dive now, else I’ll just wait till the game ages a bit.
Creating is my thing. Sorry, but that’s my huge drive for this game.
