Hello everyone, I normally go with the flow of the direction the game takes but this is one issue that is getting over looked every update…
After a very long stalemate on fissures (like most times when I play on the map). playing a 3v3… two of the players on the other team spam banshees (fully upgraded with no leader power buff). I’m playing as unsc and I make 15 wolverines with vehicles fully upgraded and they get completely wrecked, however my teammate who is playing as the banished makes several reavers and they counter the banshees a lot better than my wolverines. Ive been playing halo wars long enough to notice how air is unstoppable (banshees and hornets) with out the help of leader powers and/or a banished leader on your team who can help with reavers. Its my opinion and of many others that I play with… wolverines have one job, counter air and they do a very poor job at it. Another point…how can wolverines be the unsc equivalent of the reavers if they cannot keep up and chase down the air, being that reavers have a jump ability it would seem pretty balanced for them to at least have a volley ability like in HW1 (that’s a post for another day). anyway simply put, the wolverines are Slow and weak. If you don’t have a banished leader on your team to support you with reavers and the other team decides to spam air, then its pretty much game over and this is game breaking in my opinion.
BTW this is NOT a air is overpowered post… reavers are excellent counter units unlike their unsc counterparts and are in desperate need of a buff.
They cost less pop than reavers and you have the god tier combat tech marines and anti air turrets
I agree the anti air turrets are very effective but they are stationary. one shouldn’t have to make marines to counter air especially late game when they will be shred to pieces by pretty much anything at that point.

I find late game its the rate at which you can re-pop them, especially if you lose an engagement. I would rather have 4 Reavers than 4, 5 or even 6 Wolverines.
However I agree that CT marines are effective (as they should be) at countering Air when thrown into the mix with AA. They are just pretty slow (which is fair enough).
reavers are slightly better than wolves but don’t underestimate them. They are only 4 pop and hornets are better than banshees so that also makes up a bit, especially if you factor in something like nightingales vs engis when going vs mass banshees as engis will ruin their speed and can only heal one unit at a time. Late game (i.e. all upgrades) AA simply doesn’t cut it I’ll give you that but wolves mixed with hornets and nightingales will smash a banshee army. AA is very good even late game especially when you mikero properly but air is a bit easier to use. Overall I would say it’s a bit harder to call what is the best thing to do in 3s itself but that game mode can never be balanced (Heroes are currently such a joke in that playlist (although most people seem to not see it)) and once you’ve got to late game there is simply so many units and leader powers air is going to rule the game (which is fine).
Reavers have more HP and can directly engage underneath it. You say that Wolverines are slow, but in reality they have more range and are faster than all air units in the game. However, they have weaker armor and HP pools, so you need to kite with them. I personally find wolverines better than reavers, since you can take down an army and take 0 losses if you play correctly. In the end, it comes down to unit micro. If an enemy can get their air on top of your Wolverines, you’re done. If it gets on top of your Reavers, you’re fine thanks to their shields and higher HP pool. The two units play very differently in terms of how you need to handle them.
To take on a full pop air army, 8 well-microed vehicle III wolverines with support will be more than enough to do the trick. You need the same amount (or more) reavers since you cannot outrun air with them and will definitely take losses- and reavers cost more population. I think that makes a clear argument as to why Wolverines are in a fine spot.
