Woah boy, 343i

I have great faith in 343, but please don’t take it the wrong direction, it’s fair to judge the game to a certain degree where features are obvious and we have a good recollection of what it is like.

Can’t agree more.

They need to stick to the basics.

Why do you want them to stay with a triangle? If the creators of Halo are capable of balancing out 3 main mechanics, why can’t they attempt to balance out 4, 5, or 6 main mechanics? Make it interesting. They learned from Reach but that doesn’t mean they should scrap all their ideas. I personally thought Jetpack, Hologram, and Invisibility worked great and had no issues. Sprint I can understand due to pacing mechanics and enemy health but apparently Halo 4 is suppose to be much faster paced. Armor Lock is never coming back, guaranteed, but I wouldn’t mind seeing a bubble shield version where it only stops projectiles, not melee.

So you just want a map pack update to old Halo?

Because they did try. It’s called Reach.

It miserably failed.
You thought those abilities worked well? The majority of the competitive population disagrees with you. Our opinion matters just as much as yours. If they want to include it, fine, but give the competitive, and even semi competitive players more than one playlist to enjoy ourselves in.

> So you just want a map pack update to old Halo?

That would be perfect.

You’re shoving words down my mouth, tiagoP.

No, you see they just tried TOO much. They added too many things. Had they not tried to add bloom into the equation and slower speed but just changed equipment to AA’s, I doubt some members of the community would hate it as much as they do now. Also the game still sees a high amount of players and has a metacritic score of 91, doesn’t sound like a fail to the gaming industry, maybe just to individual people.

Reach has like twenty playlists and is extremely segmented. The anniversary playlists which don’t have any armor abilities and heavily reduced bloom are the least populated.

I do think those abilities worked well because noone complains about them. I see no harm in hologram and jetpacks, invisibility i can understand but its balanced in a sense that it’s a risk reward mechanic.

I think I love the OP.

Scenario #1:

343i keeps the same Halo formula and basically releases updated versions of Halo games barely changing gameplay elements.

Community reaction:

WOW WHAT IS THIS CALL OF DUTY?? WHERE YOU BASICALLY RELEASE THE SAME GAME OVER AND OVER AGAIN??

Scenario #2:

343i makes gameplay innovations that slightly resembles COD multi-player but plays like older Halo games.

Community Reaction:

PERKS?? CUSTOM LOADOUTS? WHAT THE -Yoink- IS THIS CALL OF DUTY??

seems like 343i can’t win with this community =/

I’d be delighted if they kept making Halo 2 with updated graphics, maps, and weapons.

so would the developers of the game after massive layoffs from failure to pull in more consumers

There is a series thats doing something like this already. Its called Call of Duty. Go Pay activision your money. And mindlessly pay for the same game over and over again.

Or if you want to play Halo 2. It already exists. People still play it every day on the PC you should go check it out.

I don’t enjoy Call of Duty. It’s not competitive and has no ranking system. Pub stomping gets old after a few hours.

I’d love to play Halo 2, but I don’t want to play it on PC. It’s not the same.

I hope they change it to some degree, but they should also stick largely with the same Halo feel, i.e. the Golden Triangle. Please, 343, don’t clone any other Halo game… and don’t clone CoD, either. Make Halo 4 it’s own game, where you get experiences you don’t get by just plugging in Halo 3 again. Halo Reach did this to some degree. It was a good idea, it just didn’t work in practice.

If 343 can give “custom classes” a Halo spin and bring back the Golden Triangle (though I wouldn’t object to a few enhancements) at the same time, Halo 4 will be perfect. Or, at least as close to “perfect” it can get.

I agree that the triangle remain intact. However I have my doubts that these “perks” will have an effect on the damage output of weapons, melee, or grenades. They will hopefully focus more on reload speed, strafing, and jump height. It’s still too early to speculate at this point in time. It’s not like the Reach Multiplayer Beta Trailer where you could tell the game was going to be awful the second you saw armor lock and jetpacks.

I personally feel like the problem with Halo: Reach’s armor abilities was the fact that some were capable of “robbing” players. Basically the complaints about armor abilities break down like this:

Sprint common complaint:
It allows players to run away when they should die

Armor lock common complaint:
There shouldn’t be a temporary pause button on your life/I’m about to kill a guy and then he armor locks and kills me after the emp burst

I think sprint can easily be fixed, by slowing down the startup speed, making it take longer to get out of sprint, it will essentially be a way to catch up and assassinate players from the back, get around maps quicker, but not useful enough to use DURING encounters with players.

And the problem with Armor lock was that it was designed as a defense against any weapon but also as a sort of offense against vehicles which bled over into being efficient against regular players, and served to many functions for 1 ability.

I think 343 gets it and honestly they do probably read these forums and community feedback, they even started phasing armor lock away in certain Reach gametypes too.

If they are going to make AA’s return I guarantee they will do it right, Reach was just the test subject and Halo 4 will be the result from these tests
