I know there’s currently a lot of stuff that can be fixed with Halo Infinite’s multiplayer right now. It’s totally fine to have criticism for the game. Heck, I also find the challenge and progression system and playlist issues annoying. I also know that one’s enjoyment in the game can be leveling up their character and trying to get special armor pieces, or playing specific game modes, so I can understand how those issues affect their opinion on the game.
But putting all that aside, are you all truly having fun? I can safely say I am.
Right now, I think the game is fun because the gameplay is fun. In the few matches I’ve played, I have been able to rekindle the awe and excitement I felt in past halo titles.
An example: In a game of CTF, I got a gravity hammer from one of the hackable weapon rooms. Running towards the enemy base, I saw a lone enemy player waiting by their flag with a rocket launcher. Knowing that they had seen me before I disappeared behind a rock, I kept sprinting, preparing to face them when I rounded the corner. When we finally faced each other, I was able to jump over the rocket he fired at me at the last second before bring the gravity hammer straight down on his head.
In that moment, I felt like the futuristic, augmented badass that I was playing as in the game.
Again, I’m not saying anyone here is wrong for having opinions, nor am I saying the criticisms aren’t valid. But at the end of the day, don’t we have fun by playing the game? With all this focus on the issues right now, can’t we also appreciate the effort put in to make a game that’s fun to play? I think back to the past few summers where we first got gameplay and news of multiplayer, and how so many where excited for gameplay that was both reminiscent of classic Halo and something new. I’d be interested to hear what other people think on this matter
p.s. If anyone else has awesome Infinite multiplayer moments so far (kills, stunts, etc.), I’d love to hear them.
Edit: Thanks for all the responses. It’s refreshing to see feedback/criticism that isn’t filled with vitriol. Since I haven’t been playing too much I haven’t seen the issues of things like a lack of playlists yet. I’ve mainly heard a lot of feedback on the challenges/progression from other posts and forums, so it’s eye opening to see how not being to choose the modes you want to can affect both challenges and overall enjoyment. Hopefully 343 also hears this and makes adjustments soon.
