With this, I apologize.

In my previous posts, I had a lot of grippes about Halo 5, but didn’t get to put my theories, complaints, and mindsets to the test. Over the last two nights a friend and myself played H5, and wow! We were blown away at how much fun we were having!

We’ve played over 30 games, and only lost a few, so that is definitely a plus to the enjoyment. However, I need to address some things…

  1. Gameplay.
The actual gameplay is incredibly smooth! Taking the fact that the game is in beta out of the equation, this game shows immense promise to the gaming industry for Halo’s namesake. Hit registers are in good shape, game speed is nice, map layouts are fun and adventurous. We have really enjoyed ourselves incredibly over these last few nights.

  2. GFX
Graphics are good and non-glitchy for me thus far, which only means that the final product (fully mastered and rendered gfx) will be eye popping and glamour’s, adding another element to the game that is a pleasure to have.

  3. Maps So Far
These two maps are so much fun! Although empire isn’t laid out in an asymmetrical fashion, it sure does play like one. I’ve had so much fun roaming, utilizing the terrain, conquering and holding important positions while playing that it has been such a blast. Although you can hold a position, there are still ways to break a set-up or reclaim a power point on the map. Hats off 343, well done on maps so far…

Now some cons…

  1. Party system
Although it is beta, we have been asked to report the baddies in the game. Partying up with someone seems to elongate the match finding times immensely. Although a simple back out at an intermission screen greatly reduces this, I hope that this will get some attention upon release.

  2. Chatting
Chatting from NPC could be toggled on/off so my teammates and my callouts aren’t misunderstood or flat out missed. Although it is a neat aspect into the game, team chatter is much more beneficial and I’d like to mute the NPC’s to hear them even better. Basically volume control for all audio functions are needed.

  3. GFX
Just simply saying, they don’t seem finished, which is ok for now. Please make sure that this is addressed as some parts of the maps are too dark, and when sniping (long rage) the graphics get pixelated and blurred and what seems to be not-rendered. Beta of course, but please don’t miss this!

AA

  1. Thrust
Wow! Awesome placement with the thrusters! I especially like that it doesn’t take you into third-person to use, so you can keep shooting and helping teammates/yourself get out of a bad spot. I like that the AA’s have been given to everyone, and they don’t take up space on the map. H: Reach and H4 simply had too many. This reduction is a good fit. It actually brings a new skill set into the game that is pretty nice to learn by utilizing thrusters properly in a gun fight.

Weapons

  1. BR
Love it. good fire speed, good bullet placement, not too much of a chance to miss 1 of the 3 shots with it if you are good. I like the fire rate of the gun as well. Sound nice too.

  2. DMR
Great to see its return. Has a good feel, and fire rate as well. Registers nice like the BR.

  3. Autos
As some say that these are OP, I respectfully disagree. I have been toe-to-toe with some using the AR over my BR and have won the encounter. Although I don’t win them all, it seems balanced once the skill curve is overcome. I actually don’t mind having an AR, SMG, Pistol anymore, as they can be used effectively at this point. However, my weapon of choice is still BR/DMR/Snipe.

Overall I give the BETA (BETA ONLY) a 7 out of 10. The fun-factor is very pleasing and I can’t wait for more of the game to be played in the coming weeks.

Looking forward to giving more feedback!

Glad to see you are enjoying it!

Is there a feedback thread where stuff like this needs to go?

Indeed. It needs to be stated when something is better than hoped for. Although there are some tweaks, I’ll admit that, the game does seem very promising.
