I’ve gotten to play a good ~12hrs of BF2042’s open beta so far. It’s not a ton, but it’s enough to have gotten a great impression of the game.
I have to say, Infinite is poised to rule the market right now. The flights have both functioned exceptionally well (Series X). What I mean, is I’m never fighting the game. BF constantly feels like I’m dying because the game reset my loadout. Or it won’t load the option to change my loadout and I spawn in with the wrong weapons. And a myriad of other functionality issues. Essentially almost every death I’ve had in BF, it felt like it was because the games features didn’t function properly, and the game did something different from what it said it would do. From a functionality standpoint, BF2042 is an incredibly frustrating game to play. –
CoD is receiving underwhelming reception and every few years there’s a dent in CoD’s mass market appeal. BF5 was underwhelming to a lot of BF fans and 2042 seems like it’s going to be a solid game, but it’s just not in a great technical-functionality state. Halo seems like it’s poised to bring legacy gameplay principles in line with modern quality-of-life gameplay features in an excellent way. And the games functionality is generally good! –
The general positive reception of Halo combined with my experience so far in Infinite and 2042’s previews are leading me to think Halo is in a best case market scenario this holiday. Every day I think the chances of Infinite getting a lot if Game of the Year (GotY) recognition go up too.
Halo is poised to be the market MP standard once again, and it’s going to be glorious!
i hope your right! halo has always been my favorite game series and seeing it fall from grace in terms of people playing is disappointing so if is gonna make a comeback this will be legendary.
I’ve got a Series X and tried the beta today after hearing nothing but bad things about it. It ran terribly. I love what they’re trying to do with it, but unless they fix it for the final product that game is not worth downloading even if it was free. I think I like the concept of BF games a lot more than the execution.
There’s something I hate about hiding better weapons and abilities behind time played too. It feels less brutal in Call of Duty because smaller maps, but in Battlefield it always feels somewhat despicable.
I don’t really follow video game news, so I can’t comment much on Halo’s competition, but the outlook is promising from where I sit. I haven’t heard much real criticism outside these forms. Most videos and articles talk about how fun the flight was to play.
Sure, there is missing (expected) content at launch, and not everyone was 100% happy with every decision made, but overall very positive reactions.
I don’t really care if Halo is ever top dog again, but it is great to have a vast and diverse population to keep matchmaking purring.
I agree 100%. I couldn’t stomach more than 2 full length matches of BF 2042 yesterday, so many functionality and visual glitches that made the game feel too clunky and more like a bug ridden mess than an open beta. I’ve played tons of BC2 and BF3, hell even the BF3 beta was less buggy than 2042. Compared to Infinite’s latest flight it only makes Infinite look even more good. I couldn’t even hit 100 fps at all medium settings on a 3060 that’s like 2 months old, and some explosions had me freezing for a split second. Infinite? Smooth as butter, up until I jumped into BTB, things were pretty choppy probably due to the amount of people playing it, and I only crashed 1 time during a match across both weekends.
Playing BF 2042 not only made me wish I was playing BF3 again, it makes me wish I was playing Infinite instead. CoD this year doesn’t even have a fraction of my attention, CW was a slap in the face after MW, so all I’m hoping for right now is for Infinite’s launch day to go as smoothly as possible.

In fact, it doesn’t run at all.
I 100% hope you’re right. I still think it’s going to face tough competition still as CoD and BF are still heavy hitters. While Halo isn’t new, Infinite is going to be the first full-fledged Halo title released on PC in a very long time.

Gained the lead
I sure hope so. I constantly evangelize the Halo experience to my gaming communities but have never pierced the COD/Apex duopoly. Hopefully an innovative release where the free multiplayer mode is both full-scope and polished will finally move MP shooter players to explore the Halo experience.
Personal feelings aside, I don’t anticipate Halo dominating the MP shooter market simply because it’s mathematically prevented from doing so: Halo Infinite won’t reach an entire 1/2 of the main MP shooter platforms (PlayStation, Mobile), whereas no other leading MP shooter excludes more than 0 to 1 of PS, XB, PC, and Mobile.
im glad halo is relevant again, the future is bright!
Hopefully it lives up to the hype!
HALO INFINITE
its the only game that after community backlash might actually be stable.
the competitors arent even trying, and halo infinite is still in a very very rough state but not as rough as the rest…winning by default is not winning…
no praise for 343 they tried to give us a mess in 2019…still wonder wtf they were gonna give us if forge and co-op still wont be finished on launch…no praise to give, just waiting to see the results, this is the last chance grade 343 can get from an older Halo fan like myself otherwise i’m comfortable leaving the series altogether, just like starwars. this is my last chance for 343 they have failed Halo for me twice almost 3 times now…
I’m waiting for the full release. I know I’m in the minority. But I have not really liked infinite at all from what I’ve played. Most of my problems revolve around sandbox/ weapon mechanics that are very fixable but the current state of the guns in this game make it very hard for me to enjoy. There is a very good base though, I will gladly acknowledge that.
I hope the game excels. That it becomes one of the best shooters we’ve had in a while. But it will have competition.
bf 2042 is going to be good. They have a lot of bugs to fix. A scary amount. But i can see the potential that game has to be magic. I think 2042 does to the bf franchise what infinite may do for halo.they cannot have a launch like bf5 though.
The biggest competition you didn’t mention is actually good old destiny. Bungie has some good momentum right now and the witch queen expansion is coming out a few months after infinite. They still maintain a fairly hefty player base this long into the franchise and will draw many players with a new dlc. They always do.
. I hope all these games are fantastic. Competition is a good thing
Halo would have to be a great game at this point not a good game to capture audiences from other games. Sure CoD and Battlefield have had their highs and lows and it could be said they also have been reeling for a game similar to one 8+ years in the past (BO2 / BF3/4). However 4, MCC and 5 failed much much harder than any games in those series and/or they release more frequently, so it has a playerbase more willing to ride out the bad.
If it’s also subpar but the best of the subpar games I just think the current shooters will continue to be popular and these releases will fall to the wayside, it’s happened a bit with CoD releases already.
I also think after the poor showing that them holding campaign close to their chest isn’t a sign that they’ve got something special to release. With the 10 year plan and campaign expansions as well as many decisions they’re making it seems very Destiny-like. If Halo had a Destiny styled campaign experience (repetitive, not epic or cinematic or tailor-made but weak mission structures placed around an open world with little replay value) and that was the only thing you’re paying for I think a lot of people will hard pass. Fingers crossed it won’t be like that.
In my opinion, besides the missing m90 combat shotgun and magnum 343 needs to up the amount of jeff steitzer in match making it is few and far between even if you get a double or triple kill.
BF2042 was a lot of fun. It’s a Beta, and I have a feeling that it was a very stripped down version to make things run more smoothly. People were complaining about things that have been in BF games forever. This was probably the smoothest BF beta in years, people forget those kind of things though.
Its supposedly a 3-4 month old build and if that’s true I’m sure the release is going to be solid with a lot more features.
Think for yourselves and stop listening to theses “influencers” chasing trends.
One of the things is the fact that CoD is a yearly release so they have quantity over quality. BF, I’m kind of indifferent about. But Halo INF has been in development for over six years, so we might have the upper hand.

I made this thread before a lot of youtubers started posting their opinions. Beat most of them by a day at least.
It’s based off my personal opinion from playing both betas (I haven’t touched CoD, so I’m going more off the general gaming community conversation on that one. And since I started this topic I’ve had more play time on the BF beta, and it’s just cemented my opinion even more.
BF is definitely going to be rough around the edges when it launches. The beta indicates this is going to be the case, and DICE’s track record agrees. Infinite is in an excellent place as far the functionality of the game itself. Then there’s the fact that the underlying gameplay is the closest to a modern coat of paint over legacy gameplay we’ve seen yet. It’s lining the stars up very well for Infinite to blow up like crazy

Lol, interesting theories. Who cares what other games are doing? Strange thread.
